Is it possible for a Will Smith trade? (1 Viewer)

66 tackles and 7 sacks is not a disappointing year for a DE especially when he is rushing the passer by himself.

Probably not the best idea in light of what happened to Charles Grant

Will Smith is not the problem on defense. He's is arguably the best player on our defense (the only other one you can make an argument for is MM). Why would you want to trade him or cut him? He had a down year on a BAD defense. Grant had a bad year for the most part and our DT's were pretty ineffective at producing and kind of penetration in the middle. Remember when we used to get all kinds of pressure off our front 4? That's cus we had DT's that required double teams and created penetration (Glover). DE's become easy to scheme for if you don't have to worry about the middle. You just swing em out wide and have inside help. If they try to go back to the inside you have the guard waiting. That's what I saw O-lines doing to our DE's all season. Swinging them out wide b/c they weren't afraid of our DT's and let them go man on man.

Who had a good year on this defense besides MM? No one. We have a severe lack of talent (LB's), and players that don't fit our scheme (David). Smith has produced for us since he got here. One down year on a defense that was bad doesn't erase that or mean he's a bad player. He deserves big money more than Grant did.
