He carries what looks like a sizable cap hit for 2019, but I’m not going to pretend I understand how the cap works exactly.
I did read that veteran salaries become guaranteed if the make the team out of TC.

The fact that he gave up an easy TD and played well into the 4th quarter can’t help his case. If he was viewed as a lock, he wouldn’t have playing in the 4th quarter of the 1st preseason game... right?

If PJ is ahead of him, and it doesn’t look like PJ is going to get suspended... then he could possibly be a “surprise “ cut when the final roster comes out

I know he looked stupid on that play for TD. But he is having a strong training camp. Rarely does his name come up when a big offensive play occurs.
I think he is a lock for roster but not for starter.

He’s a lock. P Rob is great in the slot, pretty sure the play he got beat on in preseason, he was playing outside. The out in his contract is next year. The guy who is expendable is Crawley.

Robinson Came in to be the nickel, he was probably playing late in the 4th quarter because if Lattimore or Apple get hurt he might have to slide to outside on non passing downs in the future. Nickel and outside corner and 2 total different position dont sleep on P-Rob. The coaching staff the did not want to take reps younger guys who trying make the team.

He could easily be cut. But he could just as easily be our starting nickel corner.
Not sure about cut. I think whoever loses the job between Robinson and Williams can be traded for a late rounder. Nothing special but there are tons of teams that need corners.

Yeah, but if the coaching staff views a player as a starting/important piece, then they wouldn’t play them late into the 4th quarter of a meaningless preseason game.
You have to remember he had a severe ankle injury last season that put him on the IR for the rest of the season. They may have wasted to get an extended look at his surgically repaired ankle and how it would hold up in a game situation.

That’s a very good point and would make a ton of sense.

Last year at this time we were hoping PRob would finally be the nickel corner we’ve long been missing. Now, folks are wondering if he even makes the 53. So cliche away:

“What a difference a year makes!”

“ It’s a good problem to have!”

As a whole, this DB group IS deep. I know it’s early, but IMO, there’s still some unknowns. Who’s our 3rd CB right now? PJ? Crawley? Maybe Webster? Who’s our #2 FS behind Marcus? Hampton? Somebody else?

I remember during preseason last year, Vonn Bell got trucked by a player who scored a TD! I Thought he shoulda been cut on the spot! But he ended up playing well last year, n has looked really good so far this year!

“So it ain’t over til it’s over!”

“Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? “

Cliche’ off. 😂

Givven his injury at the begining of the season last year he hasnt llayed football since september, which would explain his extra time into the 4th to get back into game shape.

He's pretty good when played nickel last year DURING the season and POOR in preseason.

So, wait... Also... They got Prob in some crap match up all over the field, because Allen wants to be cute and stupid with trying different coverage packages that don't make sense.
I don't believe DA was being cute at all. The truth is we don't have a clue who our backup outside corners are as no one has shown out behind Lattimore and Eli. It seemed pretty obvious to me that they are giving all the guys shots outside to see who shows the most position versatility in case of injury. That's the point of preseason. And to take it a step further, I also believe he was throwing other guys outside to give them a reason to let Crawley go. Webster seems to be the best alternative, which I didn't expect. My two cents.

We have three capable nickel corners, but we're still looking for at least one reliable backup outside. Hope someone steps up soon.
