I know a lot has been mentioned as regards to Teddy leaving, or the Saints being able to give him a decent contract to remain our future QB. However I'm not 100% sure that there is a strong market for TB.
Here are the teams that I know will be looking for a QB:
  • Cincinnati
  • Miami
  • Tampa Bay (possibly)
  • Los Angeles Chargers
  • Pittsburgh
  • New England
  • Carolina
Teams like the Chargers, Steelers, Patriots and Panthers will be looking ahead. However with the Panthers it is very tricky what they will decide to do. My gut tells me that they will target someone in the draft and allow Cam Newton to walk. So here are the QBs that could possibly hit the Free Agency market this year:
  • Tom Brady (possibly)
  • Andy Dalton
  • Marcus Mariota
  • Cam Newton
The reason I listed the Patriots and Tom Brady is because of the rumors of being leaving or staying. Either way, New England will definitely look for a QB soon. So with players like Burrow, Tua & Jalen hurts possibly going to one of the teams above, I am not sure how strong of a market will be for Teddy, especially being a starter.

What are yours thoughts?

I think the days of the 'stay in the pocket' QB in the NFL are becoming a thing of the past..with the speeds of defenses this day an time you need QBs that can make plays with there legs,, I also think that going forward if we are to be successful, when you see your qb taking sacks and not able to elude the rush, you need to make an adjustment right then, whether it hurts some peoples feelings or not...

Depending on the price, don't be surprised if Chicago kicks the tires. Teddy would have taken them to the playoffs. They haven't committed to the fifth year option for Trubisky. They have until March. If they don't do that, they'll bring in a veteran to push Trubisky. Bridgewater would win that competition.

Carolina also drafted Will Grier this past draft. Allen showed potential also, unsure if Rhule will go with them and possible draft a QB in the lower rounds, or possibly try to bring in a FA like Teddy while Grier develops?

IMO Chicago is the perfect place for Teddy. They have a great defense, strong running game, and decent receivers and TE’s. They are a heavy run team which will allow Teddy to use play action and short passes.

I think the LA Chargers, Chicago, Indianapolis, and possibly New England (if Brady retires) would be Teddy's biggest suitors.

I would rule out Cincinnati, and Miami because the Bengals are taking Burrow (not buying any Chase Young at #1 talks) and Miami is in a pretty good position to get Tua.

Really think Rhule is looking hard at keeping Cam on board, if he's healthy in Carolina.
If there's not a large enough market for Teddy's services I wouldn't even be surprised if he just re-signs with the Saints at a hometown discount, from reports he really loves it in New Orleans and doesn't really want to move; unless there's a life changing offer.

Chicago radio talks about bringing Bridgewater in on a weekly basis.

I don't get the assumption that a future draft QB is a sure thing.

If Brees doesn't retire (I assume he won't), TB under Belichick would be great fit. He would certainly shine there.

There are a lot of teams that would love a Drew Brees/Sean Payton protege with TB's proven game experience.

In the words of Jim Henderson, "He gone".

This off season is going to be the most interesting in years. First, Brees does he play or retire? While I‘d make a terrible gambler, my money would be on his retiring. Then what do the Saints do? Taysom or Teddy? Teddy proved he could win subbing for Brees. It wasn’t always pretty but he won. Taysom is still something of an unknown. How would he do as a full time QB? Can he learn to slide and not run like a fullback? Lots of questions. And if either guy does leave who will Saints bring in at backup (both Bridgewater and Hill have long, long injury histories)?

Next what happens with Brady? There are rumors that Brady wants to secure his legacy by going to another team and winning without Belichick. There are also strong rumors that Belichick was ready to move on from Brady by making Jimmy Garoppolo his starting QB a few seasons ago but Pats owner Robert Kraft interceded on Brady’s behalf. Kraft basically told Belichick that Brady would be the Patriots starting QB until he said otherwise and the team would be trading Garappolo. Belichick wasn’t happy but he wasn’t about to abandon a record setting perennial Super Bowl contender in a terrible division tailor made to get them into the playoffs every season. I suspect that given Kraft’s love for Brady and Belichick having no other option that Brady gets a huge payday to finish his career a Patriot.

And yes there will be a market for both Teddy and Taysom. I’m just hoping the Saints can hold on to one of them.

When the Saints hired Payton, I believe it was brought up during the interview what are his plans for Aaron Brooks, or how does he view Aaron Brooks. I see the same situation happening in Carolina.

Does Carolina gamble the future on an often injured 30 year old QB, or do they start with a new slate and target a QB at number #8?

I could be wrong but I don't see Newton returning.

  • Cincinnati - 1st overall pick
  • Miami - 5th, 18th & 26th pick first round picks
  • Tampa Bay (possibly) - 14th overall pick
  • Los Angeles Chargers - 6th overall pick
  • Pittsburgh - No 1st round pick (to Miami)
  • New England - 23rd pick
  • Carolina - 7th pick
IMO Cincinnati & most certainly Miami will be taking QB's in round one. Dalton is a FA next season so the transition works.
The Chargers I believe will also be taking a QB with Rivers being a FA it makes sense.

Of all those teams the Steeles, New England, Chargers and Carolina all have decisions to make with the starting QB's on the roster. I for one think Cam is back in Cryolina next season. I think Brady returns to NE and the Pats find a another Jimmy G in the last rounds to develop.

Really only Tampa Bay screams to me that they could sign Teddy to start next season and for the next few years. Winston will end up a journeyman backup QB for various teams over the next few years.

I like Teddy as a person a lot. One of my favorites. As a QB I think he would be an upgrade to about 8-10 teams. So to answer the question yes there is a market. He would have to be surrounded by a great defense and a great running game. (similar to what he had in Minnesota). Not what he has in NOLA. I think he is in the Jimmy G category.
