Is this correct?? Saints '07 player salaries. (1 Viewer)

And Kevin Houser is making more than Will Smith.
I don't know if we will ever know about it or not, but I'd say some of those guys are seriously unhappy about being so underpaid.
Colston and Evans need tied down for 6+ year deals ASAP, and I'd say we let Smith play the extra year out and see what happens.

Nah. They are aware of how NFL contracts work. Colston will get a huge signing bonus and all will be well. Same for Evans.

Smith has already collected a big payday, and is just cleaing up the scraps left on the last year of his contract. He knows he'll get paid soon.

Exactly. Another thing worth mentioning is that sometimes players get all of their signing bonus up front, but in terms of salary cap, the figure counts against the cap over the length of the contract. I.E. if you sign for 10 mil guarranteed over 5 years, you might get it all this year, and the cap would show 2 mil per year.

I don't know about that. His base salary is listed as 9.8mil each of the next three years.

-$4.8 million next season, then to $9.8 the last 3 years:

Saints | Contract update: Brees
Tue, 28 Mar 2006 20:58:45 -0800

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees signed a six-year contract with base salaries of $1.9 million (2006), $2.8 million (2007), $4.8 million (2008), $9.8 million (2009), $9.8 million (2010) and $9.8 million (2011).

-His signing bonus was $8 million:

The contract includes a $8 million signing bonus and $2 million in base salary this season that is fully gauranteed this season. In 2007, Brees is set to earn a $3 million in base salary and a whopping $12 million roster bonus in 2007.

-$8 million prorated over the life of the contract (6 years) means that the cap hit from the signing bonus will be around $1.33 million per year. Added to his base salaries in the last 4 years of his contract his cap hits should be roughly:

2008- $6.1
2009- $11.1
2010- $11.1
2011- $11.1

A great deal less than the $22 million from this season. The numbers might be a little higher due to incentives and roster bonuses, but we've gotten through the toughest part of his contract, especially since the cap usually goes up every year.

#'s 5, 6, & 7 should me getting paid more like #s 45, 46, and 47.

Colston should be plenty rich by now, but he's not. He's a top 10 WR in the league right now, but he's being paid like a fourth string WR.

what you guys aren't realizing is that some of these guys are at the end of their contracts. And it seems that Loomis likes to front load his deals so that later they will be less of a liability to the cap. Will Smith got a latter first round deal so the dude made money in bonuses early. As for Colston and Evans we all know why they are being paid what they are. They were late picks that signed deals.

My question is how much longer do we have to pay Ernie Conwell, Jamal Jones, Tommy Polley and Willie Whitehead? And where is Chris Barclay and Tyler Palko on that list? Do we get a pass on Antonio Pittman's bonus money because he signed with the Rams?

I fail to believe those numbers. Jason David's deal was front loaded. I know there's a difference between base salaries and signing bonuses but I can't fathom his salary for anything being under 500k. The link below to me is more reflective and realistic of how the numbers stack up

http://asp.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/salaries/teamdetail.aspx?team=20&year=2007

Saints coach Sean Payton didn't particularly enjoy being trashed in the newspaper by Falcons wide receiver Joe Horn on Sunday. And shortly after Monday's 34-14 victory, he asked the Hashmarks editorial staff to send a message to his former wide receiver.

"Tell Horn to look at [David] Patten's numbers next to his," Payton said. "And also tell him to compare salaries."

And for the record, Horn signed a four-year contract with the Falcons that guaranteed him $7.5 million over the first two years. The Saints signed Patten to a one-year deal worth the veterans' minimum of $820,000.

According to the Fox list Patten made $2,339,620???

phew if that is the upcoming season's Cap list then the Redskins will be having a clearinghouse. This is the NFL Daniel, money does not buy championships.

The Chargers numbers are the ones that are making me very nervous....they have the momentum and an awful lot of talent coming back next year, there defense is pretty good already and i'm hoping they don't give us a fight in the FA market.....since we gonna play them in London in front of the whole world.....As far as DC goes, i was very surprized to see that....no wiggle for at least two years in that org. fire-sales don't go over well with fans and they did OK this year....if the injuries set in they will get creamed......:9:

Colston should be plenty rich by now, but he's not. He's a top 10 WR in the league right now, but he's being paid like a fourth string WR.

He got a 7th round deal when he was drafted. Nobody knew he was going to turn into a #1 WR, and league/CBA rules prevent his deal being re-negotiated until the end of his 2nd year (this year.) He'll be well paid this off-season.
