Is this the best combined Saints defense/special teams/kicking units of all time? (2 Viewers)

I voted this year was the best, but I think that 1991/92 was better after considering it. I mailed in the first ballot, can I show up in person and change my vote?

Lutz is not better than Morten Anderson. Morten was accurate with a strong leg. I had tremendous confidence in him. The Dome Patrol was great. Our defense played well last week, but way to early to say this one is better than the dome patrol days. We will see. Maybe they will be by the end of the year, but I doubt it. If they are close and out offense performs like they have the pass couple of years we should be in the Super Bowl..

Hard to beat the 91/92 units (defense, hello) with Morten Anderson kicking the ball.

But this year's special teams is better than those early 90s teams with Harris as the return specialist.

Lutz right now is better than Morten Anderson ever was during any period of his career.

We certainly didn't have a Legatron back then either.

So the question is do the advantages in all of these areas compensate for the clear advantage those defenses have over this 2020 team?

It’s tough to compare across eras in pro football because of rule changes and other things.

I’d agree Lutz is easily the best kicker we’ve had since the Great Dane. Apologies of course to John Carney and Garrett Hartley along the way, but Lutz’s consistency is an awesome sight. But he isn’t asked to carry the burden of scoring points to bail out a pedestrian offense like Andersen was so often expected to do.

The defense is good, but the “Capt. Obvious” part of my post is to say the Dome Patrol was among the best of all-time, and surely among the best of the ones who didn’t win a championship.

Special teams overall is off to a good start. If we keep blocking a kick every few games and Harris brings one to the house like we all expect him to, then it’ll rival the units we had during Mora’s first coupla seasons in the late ‘80s.
