Hard to beat the 91/92 units (defense, hello) with Morten Anderson kicking the ball.

But this year's special teams is better than those early 90s teams with Harris as the return specialist.

Lutz right now is better than Morten Anderson ever was during any period of his career.

We certainly didn't have a Legatron back then either.

So the question is do the advantages in all of these areas compensate for the clear advantage those defenses have over this 2020 team?

I like your enthusiasm but the Great Dane is the all time leading scorer on two NFL teams and has made more 50+ yard field goals and won more games than Lutz. And while Harris has shown some moves, Mel Gray was a better returner so far.

I'll let you know in February....
Exactly right. Clearly this years team has great potential and seemingly the right guys in all three phases of the game to excell. We really, however, have to see if all the parts fit and work cohesively for 16 plus games. Lets not annoint them before they really have done much!

All I know is that we are set for a good 3-4 years even with a new QB next year. Heck we can add even more weapons without Drew's contract and we will be more explosive in that we will always be a threat to go deep assuming the next QB has a stronger arm than Drew.

During a family reunion in Mississippi, my pops and I ran into Mel Gray in a hotel elevator. At this point, Gray was with the Lions. SUPER NICE guy. He seemed smaller than I thought he was. I mean in street clothes, you'd have no idea this man was a dangerous NFL player, one of the best to ever do it. But again, he was SUPER NICE and spoke with me and my pops for a moment and at no time acted annoyed or inconvenienced with having to speak to fans of an old team.

Seems like whenever we have a vital unit playing lights out, it coincides with another unit poorly. Before Drew, we relied on defense, Since drew has been here, we've mainly had record setting bad defenses, terrible kicking. and kick returners that were better off fair catching the ball. I'm hoping that this is the year us fans get to witness a truly dominant team. King Morstead always gives our defense a long field to defend. Davis, Lattimore, Jenkins, Anzalone, M.Jenkins, and Williams are playing with chemistry. Jordan looks to have solid help on the other side of the line. And finally we have Harris who puts our offense in prime scoring position with almost every return. We look to have a very solid team this year but I'm not going get too overzealous until week 8. If we are 6-2 or 7-1 i'm gonna start getting cocky.

I got to go with the 1992 team. That defense was lights out plus Morten Anderson. I also think that might have been Tyrone Hughes’ first year. He was a great returner.

That team didn't have any effective return men.

Side note. Only way this team come close to or top the 91/92 defense is if they finish top 3 in pass and run defense.
