A lot of people would fork over $50 every couple of years for a Zelda game, and same for a Metroid game. I'd probably do that on PC. Not me, but others would probably buy two to three Mario games every year or so to play with the kids or as casual party games. I'm not much into the Smash and Kart games, but they're hella good IP as far as profit and market are concerned. They're pretty much why people buy Wii and other Nintendo consoles. I got some good fun out of Stardew Valley, and I'm pretty sure Animal Crossing (which it's really strongly based on) is all Nintendo.
Yeah, it's a lot of Mario and Pokemon, but it's not as thin a portfolio as it seems.
It'd be even better if they would reach back and reactivate some oldies with cult followings like Mother/Earthbound etc.
