Taysom Hill.. Taysom Hill.. Taysom Hill... We can all agree that the man makes plays. But, it would be equally honest to say, he blows more than his share of plays, too. And, as good as the report card was in his first start, the 4-year veteran got a win in his 2nd start but in Week 12 he was out played by most (closer to all) quarterbacks in the NFL.

Denver has an above-average defense but rookie QBs have produced better performances than 9 of 16 completions for 78 yards. Sean Payton's switch to small ball, relying on short passes and the run game, was the right choice. But it also broadcasts that Payton does not trust the arm of his project QB. And, if Taysom cannot show deep-ball accuracy, then defenses will cheat closer to the line of scrimmage to close off the running game and the dink-n-dunk passes.

I noticed something else and I heard at least one analyst stumble on this problem. Taysom ends up scoring a lot. THill scored two rushing TDs and Murray scored the other two TDs. Michael Thomas got 50 of the 78 passing yards. And the Saint "high-powered" offense is grinding to a Chicago Bear-like pace. The Saints team has a number of offensive stars and a win is a win, but don't think for a minute Kamara, Sanders, Cook, and Smith don't want more production and scores in these games. You wanna know why Taysom Hill is not widely loved like Brees, Bridgewater and Winston? In a Saints offense known for its passing prowess, Hill's inability to trust his arm and get the ball to his big-time playmakers may be a brewing locker room issue.

It's all about the defense in New Orleans.

The New Orleans Saints Defense has allowed one touchdown in the last four games. Let me say it another way... Saints opponents have scored one TD in the last month, 16 quarters. And that's 17 quarters if you count the overtime win versus the Bears. The defense is starting to peak at just the right time.

The Saints have the #1 defense in the NFL. The team has a league sack leader. There has not been a 100-yard rusher in 54 regular season games. And the DBs are starting to come together and play like a group of ballhawks.

The Saints are the #1 defense in the NFL (I love typing that). They have an awesome front group of linemen and LBs. Teams are struggling to gain more than 200 yards per game. And no team wants to play the Saints missing all their QBs.

It's December, officially winning time. In their five remaining games, the Saints face two division foes who know the Saints and want revenge.. Philly who is still in the hunt for the Playoffs.. the Chiefs who still hope to catch the Steelers for the #1 Seed in the AFC.. and Minnesota who have an awesome RB, a shot at the playoffs and a history of beating the Saints in meaningful games. On paper, these last five games look like 4-1 or 5-0. I see it different and not quite the holiday some may expect.

GO Saints!!

Obviously Hill is not Brees and IMO the jury is still out on whether he can be an every game starting QB in the NFL. The body of work is basically 2 games at QB at this point and too early to tell how high his ceiling is (quality starting QB, solid backup, or revert back to outstanding gadget guy!). I will be really interested to see how he does on Sunday and possible against the Eagles in 2 weeks. I sure hope that the obvious hesitation and holding the ball way too long issues will improve. If they don't the experiment with him as a full time QB will be short.

I think the whole team is aware of the situation at hand. As it stands, the expectation is for Drew to return. Nobody knows when yet, but Taysom starting is seen as a temporary solution. This is why we have filled the locker room with high character guys. Look at how many weapons we have on offense and that didn't stop Sanders from jumping in. Until I hear players actually complain about lack of opportunities because of Taysom, I'll assume they understand the situation and know that the goal is bigger than the individual.

I think evidence is mounting that Taysom is not our QB of the future. Does he have to be right now? No. If Drew doesn't return, and that truly is it for him, then we'll have to make do with what we have and see if its enough.

I do agree the team's strength has flipped to the defense. Yet we are still putting up 30+ points. Albiet against softer competition, but 30+ none-the-less. We have one of the best rushing attacks in the league and Thomas will do what he can to make whoever is under center productive.

So as it stands, I think Taysom is the fill-in and if we can keep winning with him in, great. We'll get back to it when Drew returns. IF Drew announces he isn't coming back, then I think there's the opportunity to throw Jamies out there a couple more times and see who your hottest hand is going into the playoffs. But that's if we actually start losing down the stretch.

You lost all credibility here. Stopped reading.

Drew didn't die.

What locker room issue? Do you know something the rest of us don't? Or are you just insinuating this because that is the way you feel about the offense with Taysom?

The offense has never been the problem with this team making the playoffs. It has always been the lack of defense.

Winston is widely loved? He hasn't shown much here and his previous stop he was king of interceptions. That's not winning football right there. Taysom is winning right now, and brees should be back soon. That's all we need to worry about. Whether he's the future is very much up in the air and won't be known until brees retires.
