Depends. The Crystal Skull was absurd for two reasons. The idea that we were supposed to take Harrison Ford seriously as an athletic/action presence, and aliens.

Aliens won't be an issue for Star Wars, so the question is going to be how they use a clearly older Luke/Leia/Solo. If they treat them appropriately, you know, as older people, it should be fine. This might mean a less luke/leia-centric story line but sure, ok. It makes sense to go that route anyways given the franchise is going to extend another two movies.

So we'll just have to see. If they have Harrison Ford dropping kicking storm troopers it might be lame.

I guess I should reserve judgement until it comes out, but that is what I was thinking when I made the original comment. I guess because that's how I see Han Solo. He's not some wise old sage of anything.

Also, if they turn him into an old/cynical guy who's busted up and doesn't contribute to the story line in a positive way, then that would be equally as bad. Who wants that person hanging around? IDK, I just see it as hard trying to find a good place for him.

BTW, my comment was only towards Han Solo and Harrison Ford reprising his role. It wasn't towards the movie as a whole. I'm actually looking forward to the movie with Abrams directing.

I guess I should reserve judgement until it comes out, but that is what I was thinking when I made the original comment. I guess because that's how I see Han Solo. He's not some wise old sage of anything.

Well Han Solo as a character was never as physical as Indiana Jones, and incredibly cynical to begin with.

I think you have to add some age and crustiness to the character, just by virtue of who Harrison Ford is as an actor at this point, but that should actually fit "Han Solo" fine. But the question is what sort of plot motifs can you put him in? Incapacitating storm troopers, dressing up as them, then running around a star destroyer is probably not in his wheel house anymore. Piloting a space ship, killing assassins in a seedy space bar with a pistol (and Solo shot first ) is probably still workable though.

There will be stand alone movies as well. Disney is going to franchise the **** out of this. There will be comics, cartoons, tv series, mini-series, standalone movies, etc. They've constructed a very "meta" approach to this. They'll use main-line story movies, the next trilogy for instance, to advance the "universe" as a whole, but intend for a huuuuuge amount of satellite properties to sort of "participate" in but not really directly affect the universe.

Wow...I love Harrison Ford as an actor, but he was terrible in Crystal Skull. Not even to mention the terrible script thing. He just looked like a tired old man to me. Really sad.

I don't think it's necessary. Why not just set the movies 30 years later and let them play the older versions of their characters? Remember, Obi-Wan was an old man in Episode IV. I think it's actually a pretty cool thing to see the aged versions of the characters played by the same actors with natural aging.

If I wanted to watch a movie about old people, I'd rent Cocoon again.

I've not heard that. In fact from the little I've seen, Lucas treatment was not very developed.

Ignoring the books is easily the best choice they could make. They've been going on for years and years now and probably have their own continuity snarls.

I just hope for a whole new batch of characters. I'm dying for something original from Hollywood already. Everything else is remakes, reboots, sequels, and prequels. Or am I just gonna have to up and do it myself?

I've heard about some of the "spin off" movies. I have no interest in Young Han, a Boba Fett only, Young Leia, or Yoda movies. I'd be much more interested in an IG-88 or Bosk movie, or heck, let's create completely new and original characters that are in no way involved in the original story arc all together!

And, to be clear, I'll see ANY movie, but that doesn't mean I have interest in it. I've seen plenty of movies no one should EVER let into their eyes.
