The bad 40, getting hurt, and rumors of a crap attitude in interviews at the Combine have clearly put some hate on Polite’s draft stock. Now, there’s buzz of him falling out of the 1st RD completely. The 4.8 40 time means very little. Polite plays like T-Sizzle and apparently ran a similar time. On the field, Polite has zero issues, at least none that cant be coached up or trained. He’s fast, explosive, violent, relentless, gets home for sacks, he's a finisher, all that good stuff! The bad attitude knocks sound like a 20 something year old catching feelings from a bunch of guys doubting his skills and the kid reacting to it in an immature fashion. To me, Polite comes across as a stereotypical chip on his shoulder kid who’s uber confident in his game. And to have people come at him sideways like they regularly do at the Combine invoked an immature response and action. I think that’s a maturity thing. Guys like Cam, D.Davis, Craig Robertson, Drew, Mike T, AK etc. could/would get Polite on the right path quick.

If that dude actually fell to 62, he would arguably be the clear cut BPA on the board. I dont personally think Polite will, but if he did fall, or fell within trading distance, or whatever... If we landed a monster like Polite, MAN! Any dude we draft after that would be icing on the cake. Polite has no off field red flags, other than the ones that popped up at the combine. Straight up, he has almost every elite trait teams sell out for in a pressure player. If we got him outside of the 1st RD, that guy could/would be the Alvin Kamara of EDGE rushers. I hope Polite is, and does keep falling. If we’re lucky, it’ll be right into our laps.

So your saying polite is in for a rude awakening. An attitude problem, how ironic. If no one else wants the tap in I'll take it.

Polite seems to be pretty good. He has a nonstop motor for sure and catch up in pursuit down field.

Ya, his effort/motor runs pretty hot from beginning to end. I mean, those plays came at the end of a close game when UF needed them the most. And Polite was that type of player all year. He's a clutch defender who shows up in crunch time. He'd be the perfect rotational pressure specialist to pair w/Cam and Davenport. Plus, we're suddenly a bit thin at EDGE/DE after losing AO57. We signed Mario Edwards, and though he's played and has the size of a base DE, he's more of a DT in the same vein as former Cowgirl Jay Ratliff. I think a player like Polite could/would be an instant contributor as a pass rusher. For fun, imagine a NASCAR front w/Polite, Cam, Davenport, and former UF teammate Anzalone...That would be some pretty intimidating pressure right there.

Some context, per ESPN, on Jachai Polite's apparent tumble during the pre draft process. For one, I dont put too much stock into 40 times. I actually LOVE when guys run a bad 40, cause it could cause a great football player to slip to a team like us. But it's been explained(by Tony Pauline) that Polite put on some extra muscle for the combine and hurt his hammy being wound too tight from lifting weights. All I really know is what i see of him on the field, and that guy is a real Predator. Rapp's falling, Polite's falling, H Butler's falling, Warring's rising...Someone who shouldnt be there, is gonna be there, and we're gonna land a true baller in this draft!

I haven't heard anything about Butler falling, but Taylor Rapp is like a cross between Harrison Smith and Eric Weddle. He's on my short list at 62.

I think you hit the nail on the head on most of that.

On the field, he’s not just disruptive (which is a rare highly valuable trait) but on top of that he’s a real viper of a finisher. Hell his nickname should be the viper. Within 4 yards of a ball carrier he lightning strikes with impressive force. I swear when Polite hits it looks like the ball carrier is absolutely shocked, thinking they had a lot more time. His speed off the edge is so good many times he wraps around the OT, untouched, with a foot of space between them. Those are just a few of his terrific blend of traits.

Talentwise, he’d excel at a high level if given a hybrid role that fits his unique talents. Just ask him to blast into the backfield. Just get him on the field and moving toward ball carriers. He’s got game wrecking ability if not accounted for and let loose to do one thing - penetrate penetrate penetrate.

I hope he falls to our pick. Would be a steal.

I don’t think he’s lazy because he’s got a crazy motor on the field and at game time he was in ridiculous shape. I truly think he just has a terrible agent. Why advise him to bulk up 15 lbs? He’s a speed demon not a power player. Gaining that much weight (and bad weight at that) to meet an arbritrary weight standard for the DE position and pigeonholing him in that position was just terrible advice. Anyone who gains that much bad weight in that short a time is gonna lose probably a good 6 inches off their leaping drills, and at least .2 seconds off the 40 right off the bat. Add that to the injuries he sustained due to the weight gain and you would see an event greater improvement in his drills if healthy.

He just needs solid direction. The Saints have that in spades. Draft the guy, give him good advice, and he’ll be the Tasmanian devil on one side of the field all game long for ya.

Ya, H Butler is falling. Tony Pauline dropped him into the 2nd. After having him in their top 40s, both Mcshay and Mel left him out of their recent 2RD mocks and have him falling into the 3rd. Matt Miller had him at 27, now, he's dropped him out of the 1st RD completely. On TV Louis Riddick called Butler a "niche" receiver and said teams he's spoken to look at him as 2nd-3rd RD WR. Heck, DJ doesnt even have H Butler on his top 50 prospects list. So ya...it's pretty clear that the draft experts and evaluators who are actually plugged into the NFL have dropped Butler on their boards. Seems like we, the fans, and fan based writers/reporters are the only ones who are still holding Butler in high regards. GOOD! Like I said, a great player's gonna fall right into our laps. Hope to god it's one of those guys.

On a side note, as much as I'd love to see H Butler or Polite fall to us, Taylor Rapp's been atop my draft wish list from minute 1. He's one of the guys Ive been pounding for the most this draft season. If Rapp was 100% and ran a sub 4.6, we'd have zero chance at drafting him barring a trade into the 1st RD. We prob still dont, but w/the bad 40, at least now there's real a chance he'll falls in our range. To quote the Pac 12 Gameday crew, "Rapp brings a Troy Polamalu-effect whenever he's on the field".

TE: Dawson Knox, Mississippi
IOL: Erik McCoy, Texas A&M

The other day when I said Allen was projected to go early 1st. I had him confused with Josh Allen, Kentucky. My bad.

Who is T-Sizzle?

Terrell Suggs. He was a smallish edge rusher coming out who posted bad #'s at the combine. Then went on to be a force in the NFL. Now smallish DEs with poor athletic #'s get compared to him often.

I know who Suggs is. I was unaware of his street name.

Was Suggs really smallish coming out of college or just slow? Did he put on most of his muscle in the NFL? I ask because I really don't remember him coming out and by the time he became a household name he was already ripped like he is today. I have heard the comparisons to his 40 time whenever a DE/OLB puts up a slow 40 though.

Yeah that’s a tough comparison. I mean Suggs still holds the NCAA single season sack record with 24. That’s ridiculous. It’s a similar discussion I’ve had with members of this forum on Hakeem Butler. You really can’t take a few attributes of a current prospect and compare to an all time great and have it hold up.
