Captain James T. Kirk...

After taking on 'Star Trek''s James T. Kirk last May, Chris Pine is working his way up to playing another icon, novelist Tom Clancy's heroic Jack Ryan.

According to Variety, Pine is in early negotiations with Paramount to reboot a series that kicked off in 1990, with Alec Baldwin playing the CIA operative in 'The Hunt for Red October.'

"With Chris in this role, we've taken our first step in creating a reboot that lives up to the successful lineage of the franchise," said Adam Goodman, Paramount Film Group president, in a prepared statement.

Screw that. They need to focus on Mr. Clark, instead.

Update "Without Remorse" into the present day (or hell, keep it in the Vietnam area). That's a movie that I want to see.

Why reboot? Just film the newer books. Start with Rainbow Six. Since it's awesome and sadly something that is kinda possible.

I never understood why Mr. Clark never got more play. I thought for sure when Liev Schriber was cast in the role opposite Affleck we'd be seeing more of the character...
