A big name is about to hit the market and the New Orleans Saints should absolutely be interested. Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Green Bay Packers are set to release two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander on Monday.
There are rarely players of Alexander’s caliber that hit the open market at this point in the offseason. He’s a lockdown, outside cornerback that would be an upgrade for just about any NFL team.
The Saints have a strong, though underrated, cornerback room that they would be perfectly comfortable going into the season with, but adding Alexander would make the unit undeniably stout.
Second-year cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry is set to be one of the starting outside corners. He’s a fundamentally sound and physical boundary coverage player. Isaac Yiadom is currently expected to be his counterpart on the outside. Yiadom had a fantastic year with the Saints in 2023 because of his strong coverage abilities downfield.
Meanwhile, the Saints have one of their best defensive weapons in the slot with fourth-year cornerback Alontae Taylor.
Adding Alexander to the room would likely create competition for Yiadom and set the Saints up to have a very deep cornerback room. ...
