Jahmyr Gibbs at 29? (1 Viewer)

Well, generational must have taken on a new meaning bc when I think generational, I think about Moss, Megatron, AP……guys who you know 100% will be unstoppable at the pro level. The guys you listed, I only remember two of them being somewhat considered generational. That would be Chase Young and Saquan Barkley.
Good point. I felt that way about Jamarr Chase only because the year prior every cornerback taken in the first had film of him completely obliterating them 😂 AJ Terrell and Trevon Diggs for example. I did not see JJ being this elite. I felt he’d be good! But not this elite, so I see both sides.

How many superbowls has that approach given us? Zero.

By comparison:

2006: Reggie Bush
2007: Robert Meachum
2008: Sedrick Ellis
2009: Malcolm Jenkins
2009: Superbowl Champs

Point is, in the first round we were trying to draft difference makers at skill positions not big guys. We don't win a superbowl without those guys.

If you look at our 1st picks of drafts after 2009 we started going defense and never made a superbowl again. You have to draft young talented offensive players to win when it counts the most. UDFA's or low tier FA's will not allow you to win superbowls. Those players aren't great. They fill holes, but can't be depended on to be your main guys. That's why they aren't highly sought after. There aren't many Pierre Thomas type UDFA's out there.
To add to your point, you can say the Reggie Bush pick instantly instilled some level of hope and excitement into the fan base because of how electric he was in college. He didn’t disappoint us outside of running backwards 10 yards before going forward early in his career lol.

I would disagree with you to an extend, which makes this board great cause this is what I think its all about. Discussion!

I would argue that its more about the club than it is the player. Would Peyton Manning be the same person if he went to Detroit? Would Tom Brady be the same person if he went to Oakland? Would Justin Herbert be better in New England or NOLA? etc. Just like when we grow up, often times a teacher or a manager has huge impact on our future I'm sure the same could be said for professional sports.

Who would you consider generational?

Below are the people I remember reading about / hearing ESPN blow up about being "generational" yet fell victim to mediocre stats.

Trevor Lawrence
Trey Lance
Kyle Pitts
DeVonta Smith
Chase Young
Henry Ruggs
Jerry Jeudy
Kyler Murray
Solomon Thomas
Jammal Adams
Taco Charlton
Jared Goff
Carson Wentz
Paxton Lynch
Baker Mayfield
Saquan Barkley

The point I am attempting to make, someone, every year is listed as a "generational talent" yet you really don't know until their desire is shown on gameday.
ESPN???? Really? ESPN is the Howard Stern of sports . They will say anything to get ratings. They are the LEAST reliable of any sports network

I’ll admit that I knew Jamarr and Jetts would be really good, but had no idea that they would as great as they are this fast. Dudes came out making defenses look stupid from the get go.

Yeah Reggie never lived up to his college hype. I think AK has been more of what we hoped Reggie would be. You are right that drafting him gave us some hope that we were going to have one of the league's best backs and someone who could be electrifying. He had some really great moments, but realized that in our system he would only get so many touches.

true, but Reggie also has something Kamara doesn’t currently, and that’s a Super Bowl ring lol.He absolutely played a pivotal part in our success. His playoff game vs Philly was too exciting. Heck even the Nfc championship vs the bears.

His Punt return game against Minnesota was something I hadn't seen before or after. Absolutely electric!

People saying Gibbs is just a scat back and can catch out if the back field but he doesn’t have any power are just wrong. Yes he is an amazing catcher out if the backfield, yoh could even play him as a slot WR but he has a lot of power. He’s a stud and can fit into any offense. He’s basically a stronger Christian Mcaffrey

Is there a specific game where he shows his power? Watched his highlight reel and then his touches against Tennessee, he definitely looks like an RB that makes a living outrunning people. He didn’t initiate contact once against Tennessee, and he was mostly ineffective on runs he didn’t bounce outside.

I think he’ll still find a fit in an NFL offense, but I see him as a third down specialist right now.

Cuz we gots to win the game in the trenches like its 1987.

Everyone said "Cincinatti should take a lineman to protect Burrow"...like one single rookie was going to make a world of a difference. They said "fudge that...we're taking Chase, losers pick linemen" and been deep in the playoffs every season since.
And how many Superbowls did they win with not reinforcing the trenches. Oh yeah, 0. Got there once, lost once.
