Jameis Winston signing looking brilliant with the likelihood of professional football in 2020 less hopeful (1 Viewer)

Since you’re a physician I’ll ask you this as it’s something I’ve been wondering about.

If there is no season this year and Drew decides to come back in 2021- what would over a full year of rest from games plus the right kind of training do for his arm... I’ve wanted to hear this answered by a med person or someone who understands the human body better than I do.
NFL will never cancel. Too many parties involved and too much money to make

So full disclosure, I’m not an orthopedic or physical medicine specialist, so I cannot speak to the limits of modern medicine as far as building strength and compensating to an expert level; however, I’m a 43-year-old man and I can assure you there is no reversal for aging. We have seen Brett Favre and Warren Moon play into their mid-40s, but his issues is more of the question, what does Drew Brees want.

If the NFL does have a season in 2020, he will have to make a choice to isolate from his family for a year, and I don’t think the NFL Players Association is going to let it happen. With equal likelihood that the 2021 season Will also require isolating ~100 players and staff per team from their families, someone like Brees who has older children may not be willing to lose them for 7 to 9 months and try to play football.

My area of expertise is in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, having cared for dozens of Critically ill patients with COVID in the last three months. The Offense of an defense of lineman in their 20s and 30s are by no means going to be spared severe illness. I’ve seen numerous patients succumb to this illness in their 20s and 30s who is only risk factor was obesity, and they were not as fat as the NFL linemen I’ve met. So no I don’t think the players association is going to allow a season to continue, especially if you think of the family atmosphere on a football team. If only one large young man gets stricken ill per team, remembering a season where just two or three young men in the NFL die from preventable exposures to this illness, will be very difficult for the players association representatives to justify in hindsight.
Again I just don’t see organized football happening unless there’s a vaccine released in early 2021, but that is a wish more than a likelihood.

To answer the OP, there is a reason Winston is here on a 1-year contract. It's a repeat of the Bridgewater situation, which turned out to be very smart. He was never to be the post-Brees answer, and that is a good thing.

Well the other advantage to the one-year contract was the coaching staff getting to see if Winston was fixable and a long-term answer for franchise quarterback.
The scary thing is if we don’t have a season this year, will we get to find out from my fans perspective and more importantly from a coach perspective what he can offer the team.?
Are there any attorneys with contract experience on the Forum who can conjecture if Winston’s contract would convey into the next season that does happen?

I would love to see Drew Brees get one more shot. Either in the fall, or more likely if we do get a vaccine perhaps for Christmas, perhaps we could see preseason next Spring. But if our most important Saint does decide to hang it up before We can see football start again, I’d like to know if we get a chance to see Winston play for our team

It's not scary. It's terrifying. To go from the most accurate and prolific passer in NFL history to Mr. 30-30 Vision. I'd prefer a rookie.

Man, this aged like milk. Things just never seem to work out for Jameis Winston. You know the best defense for a guy getting on the gram and liking pro-Adolph Hitler statements is "I couldn't see what I was clicking on" but ole Winston in the off-season got LASIK.
