The New Orleans Saints won the first two games of the season with their offense, Sunday showed they could win with defense. The Buffalo Bills failed to score an offensive touchdown as the Black and Gold won 27 to 7.
The Saints defense held Buffalo to 243 total yards. Controversial wide receiver Terrell Owens didn't catch a pass. Running Back Fred Jackson, who had 163 yards last week, only had 71 yards. The defense also had four sacks.
It was also a banner day for running back Pierre Thomas. He barely played in the first half, but lit it up in the second half. The third year player had 126 yards on 14 carries and two touchdowns.
The Saints started this game just like the first two contests. They took the opening drive and put a quick touchdown on the board. Running back Lynell Hamilton scored his first NFL touchdown from 1 yard out, to cap a 10-play, 82-yard drive. Quarterback Drew Brees was 4 of 5 for 69 yards, including passes of 32 yards to Marques Colston, and 20 yards to Devery Henderson. Colston had 3 catches during the drive, but would have just one more catch the rest of the day.
