Cutler, Jenkins, Bryant named NFC players of the week
Posted by Michael David Smith on December 1, 2010, 11:59 AM EST
Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, Saints cornerback Malcolm Jenkins and Falcons kicker Matt Bryant have been selected as the NFC players of the week.
Cutler received the offensive player of the week award after throwing for four touchdown passes in Sunday’s win over the Eagles. Cutler went 14-for-21 for 247 yards, and had a season-high 11.8 yards per pass. Cutler also made it through a game without an interception or a fumble for just the second time this year.
Jenkins won the defensive player of the week award after making one of the biggest plays of the year on Thanksgiving against the Cowboys. With Dallas receiver Roy Williams running down the field for what could have been a game-clinching touchdown, Jenkins caught him from behind and stripped the ball free from Williams’ arms.
“The play that Malcolm Jenkins makes late is an effort play, a heart play and it’s one of those plays that really inspires everyone on the team,” Saints coach Sean Payton said afterward.
Bryant was named NFC special teams player of the week after his 47-yard field goal with nine seconds remaining gave the Falcons a 20-17 win over the Packers. Bryant also got the scoring started in the game with a 38-yard field goal in the first quarter.
