Spin off of DSchexnaydre's blog entry about jerseys.

I own two Saints Jerseys.

#34: Ricky Williams
#7: Danny Weurffel

When the Saints came to Houston last season, I wore my Weurffel jersey to the game (Relegating my wife to the Ricky jersey *snicker*). I got LOTS of comments from fans in Houston ranging from laughing and high-fiving, to asking me why the hell I would buy a jersey like that, to overhearing one guy's kid ask who "Wuurful" is, and his dad replying "Some terrible QB the Saints had about 10 years ago, I didn't even know they MADE his jersey".

My question is this: Is it OK for me to wear my Weurffel Jersey in public, or should I make a concentrated effort to buy myself the Jersey of one of the current Saints players?

* Side note: I also own a knock-off Reggie Bush USC Jersey. Would THAT be acceptable attire for gameday??

(I figure with all the serious FA talk going on, this might be a fun change-of-pace discussion)

I don't wear my Turley jersey anymore and he was at least respectable while he played for us. Please don't wear your Wuerful jersey, go buy a cheap replicate on e-bay instead.

The Weurffel jersey is fun because it's obscure and for the reasons you stated. I wouldn't have a problem with breaking that one out every now and then just for comedy reasons. I would steer clear of the Williams one, unless you can pawn it off on someone else to wear (like you did). With that said, I still think it's definitely time to try and find a new one...

Man, go to an embroidery shop and have them make a swatch with your name on it then they can sew it on the back and then you have a personalized jersey.

My wife has a serge machine an does all of mine.

It is proper to wear the jersey of your favorite player on the current roster.... I would not offer you a beer if you were tailgating with me with a #7: Danny Weurffel jersey on..

on the other hand.... if you could hook me up with that girl in your avatar .. I would give you my whole cooler...

The Wuerffel jersey would only work if it was some sort of "throwback" style (i.e. white with gold numbers)... or if you showed up wearing it and your helmet on backwards.

Danny is perhaps one of my favorite Saints players because of what he did off the field rather than on it as a Saint. A great representative of a pro athlete...

However, I'd think it would be better to get a replacement jersey now...

Do I get a beer for wearing my Michael Haynes jersey which I bought when Haynes was actually with the Saints?

I also have a Karney jersey.

I have a real NFL Aaron Brooks jersey that was a gift from my son that I can't wear, but I can't bear the throw it out.

I don't mind seeing old jerseys like that. It says you've been a fan a while, and in Woeful's case, it also says you have a sense of humor.

The only time a Weurrful jersey is acceptable is if you're wearing a backwards helmet with it.

I think others can wear whatever they want...it doesn't bother me. But I wouldn't be caught wearing either of those jerseys. My suggestion would be: a) buy a new jersey b) put duct tape on the back of them and write in "Andersen" and "McKenzie".

SO if I wore a big, inflatable Saints Helmet backwards....that would make my Weurffel jersey ok??

What about my Reggie Bush USC Jersey? Is that acceptable or does it HAVE to be a Saints jersey?

Sometimes you can like a player for the player itself. For instance, Wuerffel does a lot of charity work in New Orleans and is an all-around great person. No he wasn't that good on an NFL field but if you like the guy, I say wear it.
