Jesus, you're not conservative enough (1 Viewer)

It's really scary when you see signs that Idiocracy is not a joke but a prophesy.
I'm a fairly mainstream kind of guy in values. But I look at things from all angles.

When I'm not scared to death of what I see and hear out there these days, I'm just plain insulted.

Jesus was the ultimate Socialist/Liberal. Truth.
.
Jesus Christ said:
I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.

i wonder what the reception would be if Jesus was alive today and said this.

Jesus has more in common with Michael Moore.

As I said before, if Jesus was alive today and looked at the World, he'd be heading to Washington DC, or Wall Street to look for the moneychangers.

And if his message resonated with the masses, he'd be offed just like last time.

Blasphemer!

Funny you mention Michael Moore in this conversation. I recently read an interview with Moore in the NY Times and he basically said his traditional Catholic upbringing (he had contemplated joining the priesthood) and their focus on social justice and equality really inspired his direction in life.

Not shocking at all.

Someone who takes Chrisitianity and the words/example of Jesus seriously is probably not likely to be far from being on the same page with Michael Moore.

This puts the lie to the religious right, who selectively focus on Old Testament fire and brimstone and the apocalyptic judgement of Revelations, the only parts of the Bible that apparently resonate to those with right wing tendencies.

Tolerance, forgiveness, turn the other cheek, rejection of materialism all conveniently forgotten.

Jesus wasn't really concerned with cleaning up the governments or financial centers of his time. He would most certainly visit the modern church and cast out the money changers and false teachers. Jesus could be characterized as liberal in the sense that his word was for everyone---he was not exclusive as to his audience. However, Jesus told those to whom he preached to go and sin no more. He also taught that he is the way the truth and the life and that no man comes to the father but through him. So the idea that Jesus is some free wheeling hippie isn't entirely accurate.

Would Jesus be more at home with Bill O'Reilly or Phil Donahue?

Politicians (Well, Kings, Dictators, religious leaders) have been editing the bible since its inception to match their current beliefs, nothing different happening here.

I think anyone who tries to believe that Jesus would be more in the company of one person over another whether liberal or conservative, socialism, capitalist, anarchist, what ever is trying to compartmentalize a total complete absolute into one corner where it perceives it should belong but it never has.

IMO, Christ was trying to bring a message that transcended politics and idealism and bring us more into believing/trusting God. It's foolish and naive IMO to say that God loves Micheal Moore or Phil Donohue more so then Bill O'Reilly or Sean Hannity, because to say that would be akin to saying God's is all on there side and not the other, and that's the madness we've seen all throughout recorded history. I don't think anyone here knows all of what Micheal Moore's done in his life that's been bad, good, or evil. There are some, if not, many things we haven't heard as opposed to what we have.

Same thing applies to all of the other TV talking heads/op-ed documentary directors "truth seekers".

Lets not get too carried away.

I for one look forward to our Christian Caliphate Overlords.

I'm just basing that on the words that made the final edit.
