Former New Orleans Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma’s football experience was one for the ages. It began with the Miami Hurricanes in the height of their mid-2000’s dominance, saw him drafted by the New York Jets, and later traded to New Orleans, where he helped win Super Bowl XLIV. Then came the Bountygate scandal and Vilma’s eventual retirement as a three-time Pro Bowler. He now works for ESPN as a college football analyst and sits on the Orange Bowl Committee.
Vilma and a host of other Hurricanes alums reflected on their experience in the months leading up to the 2004 NFL Draft with Tim Rohan of Sports Illustrated. Vilma was one of six Hurricanes prospects who would go on to be selected in the first round of that year’s draft, a feat unmatched before or since.
