Reading the thread about TM7 and RR there was a comment about Greer that got me thinking. He is not very big and ran a 4.5 out of college, fast but not blazing speed. He was never drafted either. Thete are alot of quick and fast corners that never make much in NFL.

Greer has been a very good corner in this league and is a man-man corner but played solid in zone last year. He played alot better than many say he did during the season. What is it that has made him a great corner in this league, film study, technique, quickness. Just curious, you dont see many undrafted corners make a big impact like him.

I think like you said he's an intellectual, hard working film guy.

But he's also really fluid, and has good hip flip which is a huge asset in Man Coverage, which makes up for his average top end speed.

For a Corner it's better to be agile, and be able to turn quickly rather than just run in a straight line really fast.

Great technician...especially in man coverage. U rarely see him play with poor technique. As far as speed...not sure about his 40 but i know he was a track guy.

Yea he plays faster than his forty. Amazing hips. Greer can back pedal and rotate into a recievers route like a boss. Plus he's good at being physical at the line.

These. Very agile and a totally cerebral player.

So the bigger question is ... not how these undrafted players make it in the NFL ... but ... how are these types of guys not drafted ... how do the pro scouts miss on these guys?

A lot of times these guys just arent ready. Sometimes its just being over looked, injured your last season, raw, small school, bad coaching. Sometimes scouts just miss.

40 yard scores don't even matter that much. We are talking about 1/5 of a second difference in a 4.3 and 4.5.

without pads in this figure as well, without having a ball in air, without having someone breathing down your neck to catch it over your head...
