Just a HC option question about Coach Sanders… (1 Viewer)

If Deion really does get hired as the Cowboys HC, Shadeur is about to refuse to play for a bunch of other teams.
I don't know the Cowboys pick 12th that will take a lot draft capital. The Giants did have to compensate the Chargers for Eli but the Colts picked first.

Yeah, he will refuse to play for teams until it gets to the point where the trade up is doable for the Cowboys. And that family has plenty of money to sit out a year if a team takes him that he refused to play for.

Otherwise, I don't see Deion taking the job. He's only going to do it if he can have Shadeur as his QB.

My 2 cents... College Football is basically ultra NFL right now. Every season the players are free agents if they choose to be. every player is worried about their paycheck first, football second... so can any College coach be an NFL coach? No, the old guard(Saban, etc) probably can't handle the NFL, but anyone that has adapted to the current NCAA and is successful likely would have no real issues transitioning to the NFL.

Yeah but there is no salary cap in college, not every team has the same money, and there are no long term contracts for players like in the NFL. Plus, the draw that Deion has that he will get you ready for the NFL will be lost and the draft doesn't let you just buy all the players you want.

But, it's all going to depend on the staff he hires and who is in charge of getting him players in the draft.

Except Deon has not had to deal with a salary cap as a coach.

He’s only coached his sons. If they weren’t athletes, then he might have never coached at all. I don’t think he’d have a problem motivating NFL players, but still I’m not sure that he’d be successful in the NFL

well, its was proven Saban couldn't handle the NFL.
99% of College players aren't getting NIL money, not enough to be a 'money first' situation any way. I am not sure there are many examples of "i'm more worried about my paycheck than i am football" situations. take away the top 10 NIL earners, the rest are making pennies compared to what they would make in the NFL.

On an organizational level, he might be able to do the job with the right staff. He's proven that he can manage a staff and a roster about twice the size of an NFL roster. But succeeding and being able to functionally do the job are two different things. I wouldn't want to be the team that takes that chance.
I agree, I think it’s setting up to possibly be a beautiful disaster in Dallas with Jerruh being in negotiations with Sanders agent

The people that would be declaring for the draft early are declaring for the portal and getting paid more than a rookie contract would pay them.

Deion can succeed in college because young players love the idea of playing for a living legend. Professionals aren’t gonna give a 💩 about that..

i think thats more of the underclassmen who think they'll go undrafted.
stay in college a extra year, make a 100k, or go undrafted and maybe latch on to a practice squad.
but if more underclassmen are are staying because of NIL deals, then that's a good thing.
how many underclassmen are convinced to go pro early and it doesn't work out for them?
