As long as the villain doesn't do some strange dance at the end it'll be an improvement.

That is a lot of positive reviews in that sampling (only one really negative one). I have to admit I am somewhat surprised. I think Whedon taking over might have helped this film out.

Even the positive reviews have a few issues though. Things they'd change (likely plot holes), a villain problem (likely don't care about them and a throw away). CG issues.

I guess at least they made it entertaining vs brooding, so that's an improvement.

Looking at quite a number of Twitter reactions, the consensus I can put together so far seems to be:

NEGATITVES:
The plot is barebones and just generally not good.
Steppenwolf is apparently a pretty bad, forgettable villain with pretty bad motivation that doesn't make a lot of sense.
Cyborg is said to pretty forgettable.
Bad CGI.
The change in directors is far from seamless. It looks like a Snyder movie but feels (dialogue, interactions, etc.) like a Whedon movie.

GOOD:
Lighter tone, nowhere near BvS on the Grimdark meter. This is a movie with actual levity.
Wonder Woman steals the show again.
Aquaman could be the breakout character. He's getting a good bit of praise.
Flash is really good.
Overall the team dynamics work really well, and those interactions are what keep you invested in the movie.

So in other words...the plot sucks, the villain is weak, and you can tell it's a spliced together film but most of the JL themselves work really well and their interactions and the general more hopeful and optimistic tone make it significantly better than BvS.

Yeah, this was exactly my read on it.

I think that's a good breakdown. While I'm not expecting this movie to be very good, I still think that of these improvements prove true, then that's a huge step.

I'll forgive some plot issues with comic book movies, and many of these films (even Marvel) have villain problems. Their major problem has been a failure to get characters right. Wonder Woman was a big step in the right direction and it seems like they are continuing to trend in the right direction, even if the movie still has other problems.

I just got done watching it! I have my complaints, won't spoil anything but I did enjoy it a lot and it was better than BVS.

How does it stack up to Wonder Woman?

Well, without spoiling much, it is still a Snyder directed film so it has less heart and not as good as a plot as WW. Ranking-wise?

Wonder Woman
Man of Steel
Justice League

BVS

Suicide Squad!

Joss Whedon definitely made a mark on the film though

Oh wow, you're ranking Man of Steel above this? Not sure many others would put it that high. I happen to like it, though, so if this one is close to that, I'll be pleased. Of course, I liked BVS too, for all its flaws.

Yeah that's just my take on it but it also shows how bad the DCEU has been so far. As far as how people see MOS, as flawed as it was, I thought it was an excellent origin story movie and I love Cavill as Superman and as Clark Kent and the best way to see the most Superman is in MOS. If I had to describe the movie, I would say it is more about the League coming together and less about Who they fight

Not wanting to talk spoilers because I've stayed relatively spoiler free, but this was originally intended to be a two part deal. I'm hoping that this will do well enough that we get JL 2 and we actually have Darkseid involved. If Darkseid is involved in this one, nobody spoil it!! ;)
