Kamara extended! (5yrs/$77M) [merged] (1 Viewer)

McCaffrey's getting used up. Nothing's a guarantee but hopefully for him, AK will have a longer career to make more money.
So how long do you think McCaffery is going to hold up being 60-70% of the Panthers offense? He was starting to show some wear and tear the last couple of games last year.

I give him another season or two at the most and he'll be done.

Sharing the workload is the best thing that can happen to a running back.

This is exactly why I think Kamara should have agreed to take a couple million less per year. We are extending his career by managing his touches, keeping him fresh, minimizing wear and tear. We're paying McCaffrey money for only a fraction of the touches.

Either way, like I said, I support the move, and I'm very happy we locked him up long term. I just think we could/should have gotten him a little cheaper. There is only so much of the pie to go around, and we have other great young players to pay. So its not a deal breaker for me, just an observation.

Exactly. McCaffery's the bigger gamble. All their eggs are in his basket.

In a couple of years, assuming AK is able to hold up to the pounding, this contract IMO will not seem bad. Good move on the Saints part. Now we have to see what magic Loomis can perform to keep Lattimore and Ram!

I think Dallas has us beat because Dak’s franchise tag is 31mil and Drew is at 25mil/yr. Zeke and Kamara are paid about the same. MT and Amari are about the same.
I'd definitely will take our Triplett over Dallas'. The Cowboys Trio is good but N.0s has an all time QB, possible all timer in M.T (just a matter of his career playing out succesfully) and one of the most electric and versatile RBs in football. Ill never forget Kamara's kickoff return for TD against the Rams. He was so fluid, quick and precise in his movements.

The only contract that is remotely close to that level of bad is Andrus Peat.

I think to get something that bad you have to have a big contract and no player. That was the pain of those contracts. We were paying huge money for a hole on the roster.

Peat's contract is pretty expensive, but I don't know if it goes to those levels comparatively. Percent of the cap would probably be a good metric to check. As dinged up as he's been I still don't see him missing full seasons either. I think we'll at the very least get an overpaid starter in that spot for the majority of each season.

Kamara does have a bigger contract and is at a higher injury risk position. If we get 100% Kamara tearing up the passing game it can be worth it. We've seen him do it for stretches. I do feel like the risk is pretty high. I would never predict Byrd/Galette though, that's pretty catastrophic.

The way GMs have been doling out deals doesn't seem like a shrinking cap is going to occur. NFL owners must know they are about to get big money from TV and gambling

The NFL doesn't get a cut from gambling.

I wish we had Brees on a base of $25 mil and a $25 mil bonus for each additional SB he wins for us

Do you realize what that would do to the cap?

If that was in his current contract, his cap hit would be 25+ this years signing bonus charge. Next year would be 25 + signing bonus + 25 for the performance bonus. That would not happen!

Doesn’t Robert Kraft have a big stake in draft kings? Maybe not directly but....

If he did then the league would have forced him to sell that interest. A few years ago, 2 of the Rooney (Steelers owners) had to sell their shares back to the family because they wanted to get involved with some casino's or possibly horse racing.
