Kicker.....What about a kicker? Saints re-sign Gramatica

I think the saints wont draft a kicker, however they do need one. They had Gramatica at the end of the year not sure if he is around for this year. Also the team can not count on Mare. Will they go back to what they used to have and keep two Kickers on the team? One for kick off (Mare) and one for field goals (Gramatica)?

Gramatica is a 76.7% kicker in like 100 plus games. Is there anyone out there that is better or has a stronger leg? I thought in one game he kicked in they were questioning his leg strenth.

I know the main goal of the offseason will be toget better on the "D" however 1-2 games this year could have been won if the Kicker could kick the ball through the up-rights.

Guess I got my answer.......http://www.nola.com/breaking_sports/index.ssf/2008/02/saints_resign_gramatica_hire_c.html

I was all for drafting a kicker in last year's draft, either Crosby or Folk. I am not sure if there is a player as good as these two this year, but if there is one, I would not mind using 5th or 6th on a player that can be productive for many years to come.

I wouldn't mind using another pick, even a 4th. rounder, if there is a good kick/punt return specialist.

We tend to forget how important special teams are, and we need a solid base if we want to compete in close games.

I wouldn't mind drafting a kicker and getting that position out of the way for a few years, but if they are going with a veteran again, let's resign Gramatica!

Rob Bironas is a restricted free agent. If Tennessee doesn't slap him with the highest tender I would make him an offer (he was undrafted)

The guy has got a leg on him as was seen with 16 touchbacks on kickoffs (something Payton likes) and has made a 56 yarder and 60 yarder the last 2 years and is accurate and has kicked game winners under pressure. Also in Hawaii

Are you kidding me? Grammatica made some amazing kicks for us at the end of the season. I think we'll be just fine with him.

I'd like to see Conner Hughes brought back for another look. IMO he should have beaten out Carney in 06 or was it 05. The year Weatherford got the starting punter role from Burger.

Mare has to go..

I'm fine with Mare, he started picking up his game before he got hurt. And surely yall remember that game where he executed those onside kicks perfectly both times.

Kid from University of Georgia is a winner. What's his name?
Coutu(sp?)

Didn't he make a 55 yarder last year? I think his leg strength is fine. He does leave a little to be desired on his kickoffs, though. I don't think we use a draft pick on a kicker this year when we have so many other needs, mainly on D.

Don't need a kicker as long as Mare is healthy.

I wish more people understood this. When he was healthy last year, he was solid. A kicker with a groin injury is not going to make the kicks, or have the confidence. Mare was brought in for a reason, lets give him another camp before we call for a new kicker.

Brandon CaToo...

I agree, the kicker coming out of UGA is MONEY!!! He had a great college career, but I know I'm misspelling the name...BRANDON CaTOO. I didn't take the time to look up the spelling.

I wouldn't mind the Saints taking him in the draft at all! He'll be making some kicks for somebody!
