Does Kong fight for America while Godzilla fights for our enemies?
If you mean by enemy, the highly militaristic, "officer's clubs" societies-dominated, territorial-expansionist, ultra-nationalist pre-WWII Japanese government and its high-ranking politicized officer corps, then I suppose, Godzilla would be a frightening, terrifying weapon for the Japanese to teach arrogant, Western "devils" a lesson in proper modesty, humility, and adherence to morally and ethically superior Bushido warrior culture.

Naturally, if we presume Godzilla to be a figurative Japanese superhero, his countless, fictional total destruction of Tokyo and other major Japanese cities is a strange show and attitude of his patriotism or belief in a new Greater East Asian Co-prosperity Sphere.

Either way, I really do hope Godzilla kicks the big, overgrown dumb gorilla Kong's arse, chops whatever remains of his corpse into little pieces and has a huge barbeque dinner and he decides to donate whatever is left to homeless shelters because Godzilla does indeed have a social conscience.

I have a niece who is in the movie. We were supposed go to a special viewing with the family, but since we haven't been vaccinated yet, we decided it wasn't a good idea. This is her. She's deaf too.

So I liked the movie, thought it was really good. I do know that people complained about the human story sucking just like with Godzilla King of the Monsters but I thought the story was better than Godzilla 2.
I didn't like 7's story, a teenager goes off and finds this dude that people think is a crackpot and winds up in Hong Kong and her father has no questions about that? Outside of that I enjoyed it. Mecha Godzilla was badarse, he was whipping Godzilla's arse.

Great movie. Just like in the old school movies the human element isn’t Oscar worthy. But the Titans were absolutely fantastic. Some of the scenes were just stunning.

You will enjoy it.

edit I meant figurative sense. Not fugitive. I’ve indulged in fireball.

She was the 4th Titan in this movie! In a fugitive sense. Great performance.

Edit. See my above edit. I edited my own post wrongly. Figurative not fugitive

I am kind of turned off by how big they made Kong. He has really transformed over the decades.

That said, I’m not looking for an Oscar worthy performance by either creature, I’m just looking for a good clean fight.

Now I have to go listen to Wyclef Jean and Lauryn Hill.

I just watched it with open arms because it is sci-fi. I really enjoyed it. I should've re-watched Skull Island and Godzilla prior just for a re-hash, but I don't think it would've been necessary.
I was actually buzzing through this thread to check on this as I haven’t seen the others. I don’t mind watching any other movies if it adds to the experience. Does it totally stand on its own, or would other movie(s) be recommended to watch first?

Whatever connective tissue that exists doesn't inform the main plot for this movie at all. I'd watch the others if you can before the new one but you don't need to at all.

The opening credits do a pretty good job of catching you up to speed if you pay attention to them. They cover all the highlights of the other 3 movies that matter to this movie.
