Kiper's view on Jacob Hester (1 Viewer)

I thought most people thought Kiper was a quack? Now hes a genius because he talks up an LSU player?

Nah--Hester is still good and Kiper is still a quack.

What's that saying about a blind pig?

That's called a TE/FB hybrid. There have been a few of these and it's a growing trend. Someone who can do either position. If Hester were used properly he could be the poster child for this trend.

Oh and Colston was never on a TE. Not in college or on teams draft boards. The only reason that he was ever called a TE is because some of the same "draft specialists" that are spouting things off now didn't know what to do with him because he didn't attend the combine and declare himself a WR.

I just remember them saying he was a tweener.

yea....I do think hester was a tough college RB but guys.....a FB in the NFL??? he's no where near big enough for that.....heart will get you certain places in college.....but you need a whole lot more in the NFL.....no matter where he gets drafted I dont see him making the team anywhere....unless he blows up in the next few months.......

I think he will do fine in the pros, he doesn't have a spot here unless Karney goes down but he will help some team out when they draft him.

Hester is a player that every NFL coach is going to want on their team. The teams that passed on him will be kicking themselves in a few years when he proves how good, reliable and versitile he will be at the next level.

a rb not a fb i guess its impossible for jacob hester to have any athleticism at all, its just pure heart :idunno:

Prime example: Mike Hart.

Smarts and heart will work wonders against college talent, but won't get you far in the NFL. Hart is undersized and slow and Hester is a tweener and slow. Bad combinations for both. Hester might make it somewhere as a 3rd RB/STer for a team thats not set at that position. He'd struggle to make our team because of how many good RB's we have.

Its just hard not to want a guy like Hester on your roster. Need a guy on ST plug him in. Need some one to pick up the blitz and block for the QB or block on a run, put him in. Need a target to throw too out the backfield, put him in. Need to pick up a first down on third and short, put him in. Need a guy that protects the football, again play hester. I agree he isn't flashy or shouldn't be drafted on the first day, but the guy can play football. He does all the basics extremely well. He will be an exceptional asset to who ever drafts him. He won't break records or be MVP but he will help you win.

He's not gonna be a FB like Karney, but more like Taylor w/Hornung (old Packers), Csonka w/Kiick & Morris (old Dolphins), Galbreath w/Muncie (our own Thunder and Lightning), and how big was Rathjen when he led Craig for da niners? Or Hokie when he was a "FB" for the Saints?

He's gonna be more like a FB/H-Back/TE hybrid, and the single back in a 4 WR spread offense--that's where his blocking, rushing and receiving abilities come in. And yes, a big ST player.

I think this is how most folks that like Hester see him--"jack(ob) of all trades, master of none" ring a bell?

I think Hester will go before 5th round not because he is a starter but because he will be an elite special teams player and situational running back. He is a very good football player. He doesn't fumble, doesnt' get hurt, is always where he's supposed to be, he's fast, he's tough, he's a short-yardage guy, he's a reliable receiver, he's a good blocker and pass-protector. This guy is a LOCK to make someone's special teams, and if he's given a REAL shot, he could be a second-or-third-string tailback/fullback.

Yes, he's a tweener, just like Reggie Bush is a specialty player. If you use him right, he can make plays. If Hester is used sometimes as a fullback, sometimes as a short-yardage or 3rd-down tailback, he could be successful. I agree that most of the time those kinds of players are not drafted until the fifth round, but I think Hester will go before because he is a fantastic player of that mold. He will excel and be special as the special teams guy and the role player running back.

Bingo. This is how i see him. A FB which i think he will be better at will change the way FB are used in the NFL. Imagine a FB as a passing threat. It's like how teams view duece and reggie in at the same time. would if it was Duece and Hester in with Colston , Reggie and Meachem at WR.

The reason that some reports don't have Hester listed among the top 30 running backs is because many have him listed as a fullback.

Hester is faster than most of the other fullback prospects in this draft. His 40 time projects to about 4.55. He clocks anywhere from about 4.5-4.6 depending on the given day when he's timed. Now, as a pure RB, he is a bit slow, so whether he's regarded as fast or slow depends upon what position he will actually end up playing the most in the NFL. I personally see him being a 5th round pick who will turn out to be quite a bargain for the team that picks him when all is said and done. And I sure hope he doesn't go to the Bucs or any of our rivals in the NFC South b/c I like the guy and don't want to have to root against him twice a year.

I'll be shocked if Hester turns out to be a good fullback in the NFL. I'm sorry but I just think he's too small.

Beast on ST, can block on blitzes, can catch out of the backfield, can pound it up the middle on short yardage. What else does this offense need (without Deuce)
