Kirk Merritt (1 Viewer)

We haven’t heard his name much. And wasn’t he the target on the Ceedy INT yesterday? The pick wasn’t his fault, but he didn’t comeback for that ball as aggressive as he should.

It’s going to be exciting to see what the WR room ultimately looks like. All but the top 3 need to have that life or death sense of urgency.
The thing with Callaway he's really never the aggressor at contested catch point and he continues to let DBs have their way with him. So, it's really scary to be throwing passes at him unless he's wide open. His hands aren't the best either.

Worried he kind of reached a plateau.

Kirk might have a legit shot at taking his spot. He has more versatility than Callaway.

4 WR's are locks - Michael Thomas, Jarvis Landry, Chris Olave, and Deonte Harty. With just 2 spots to fill at WR - whoever it is, will have to be expected to play special teams.

Recently, I heard that Marquez Callaway was running as the #1 gunner on special teams (replacing the departed Justin Hardee). If you believe that, then Callaway is likely a roster lock.

And that 6th spot is up for grabs - but as history has shown, that 6th WR is normally an inactive player each week.

Callaway will probably be the gunner, but I don't think he'll be the 5th WR if Kirk keeps showing out.

Granted... For Kirk to make this team... He has zero margin of error.

As much as we have fan favorites, whoever the 5th and 6th WR will be... they won't be playing that many snaps.

Not enough balls to go around after the 4 primary WR's... TE's and RB's get their chances.

Granted that 4th WR is Harty and he's a situational piece that can't do routes without inside leverage.

So... That 5th WR may actually get some more usage than expected

TQS and Sorenson are firmly in the same group for me. They're good depth if they make the roster, but ideally you want a younger player to show that they can take their spot.

Justin Evans and/or Bryce Thompson will make Sorenson expendable. I know Bryce is a corner but he's playing too well to not keep on the roster.

And yes TQS is on the outs with guys like Merritt playing as well as he is.

We normally keep 6 on the gameday roster. Unless DA dresses 7 WRs on gameday we have a firm 5, then a ton of guys fighting for that last spot.

Thomas, Michael
Olave, Chris
Landry, Jarvis
Callaway, Marquez
Harty, Deonte

Smith, Tre'Quan
Merritt, Kirk
Baker, Kawaan
Dixon, Dai'Jean
Winston Jr., Easop
Shaheed, Rashid
WHITE, KEVIN

I can see Merritt showing out in preseason and supplanting TQS.

Well if Callaway is already regulated to gunner and Merritt on tape with a play that none of our WRs from last year could do, I'd say we already know who has the upper hand. Also, Merritt can do everything Callaway can do while being bigger, stronger and faster.

I’m not ready to cut Callaway in favor of Merritt.

…there’s room for both! If Merritt earns it, TQS and his disappearing and blocking skills can kick rocks.

Ever since TQS visited the Turds as an UFA this offseason, and the Turds said “nope”

…I’ve lost faith in him entirely.

I’ll ride the “Merritt Cinderella story” and let TQS go be a #4 for the Steelers or some team I don’t give 2 💩 about.

We assume they said no, he could have just as easily been the one to not sign there.

He wouldn't be 4th on the Steelers since they don't miss on drafting WRs.

I forgot about Rashid. He's a promising returning. Maybe an insurance policy if something happened to Harty. Isn't he on the pup list right now?

Long way to go, n it was only ONE play. So for now, Im gonna pump da brakes a lil, n not get over exited about KM.

But no lie, that was ONE helluva play, huh!!!

😂👍🏾😂👍🏾

The guy has some freakish athleticism! Like I said, that ALONE is gonna give him a few more looks. But seems he’s also been progressing as a WR too. Jarvis talked about his play so far, that he’s been working hard n has flashed some, but thinks he’s got the upside/talent to do well!

We’ll see

Agreed! He’s listed at 6’0, 215 lbs. Very similar in size to Deebo n former Saint Ty Montgomery as WRs who are built like RBs. And no doubt, his athleticism is off the charts!

But man, we’re so deep at WR right now! KM would really have to show out wit his ball skills n route runnin to crack dat group.

But last year, there was a significant drop off in our STs play. DA is very aware of it n is looking hard for players who can upgrade dat unit. KM has the size n speed to compete as a gunner, but wit his speed/ athleticism could also spell Harty as a KR.

Stay tuned
I think we drafted or signed an udfa return specialist this year, so dunno how that part will play out.

I think we are seeing the Kodi Burns effect on Merritt. I'm sure the others WRs will benefit as well, but Merritt might be the most significant considering what he did with Velus Jones Jr. at Tennesee to help him develop and they have a similar playing style with Merritt being bigger.
