Report: Kolb getting the start for Eagles
Posted by Tom Curran on September 19, 2009 10:12 PM ET
Andy Reid tried through Friday day to cast a shadow of doubt over who his starting quarterback would be Sunday against the Saints.

Jason LaCanfora of the NFL Network reports tonight that the doubt can be removed. Kevin Kolb will make his first career start, according to LaCanfora.

McNabb sustained a fractured rib last week in the Eagles season-opening, Delhomme-aided win over the Panthers. His status was officially listed Friday as doubtful.

Newly acquired Jeff Garcia will be Kolb's backup. It remains to be seen whether McNabb will even dress as the team's emergency quarterback.

Like we didn't already know, but it's now confirmed.

Yeah anybody that thought for a second that Mcnabb would play is totally nuts. When they said the rib was a full-break, then that removed ALL doubt for me.

He may have been able to go had it been a stress fracture... but a full break will keep him out for another couple weeks.

If I was G. Williams I'd be dialing up heavy pressure with blitzes until the Eagle O line shows they can pick it up consistently or Kolb is able to recognize it and throw short quick passes to a TE or back as a safety outlet.

I dunno.. I was thinking to take it a 'little' easy on the kid at first. Let him make the usual rookie-type foul ups and miss a few pocket escapes and toss a few ints. Then once we've got the game in hand and it won't matter if Garcia steps in, pound him into green jello.
