Suddenly its chic among the pundits to harp on talent when considering their pick for Coach of the Year. "Doing the most with the least" as one put it is fine if everything else was equal, but anyone can see its not.

This brings me to my second thought, talent. Too many people equate that with production. If a team has high production it must have alot of talent. Wrong, it could just have great execution. At the beginning, we were supposed to be one of the least talented teams. Now, because they can't argue with success, Payton supposedly had more to work with than Mangini or Fisher. I guess its too hard to credit Payton with fitting players into his system and demanding execution.

I see more and more talking heads mentioning Mangini as a real candidate. There is simply no comparing the mess Payton inheirited. The organization was in shambles. No coach has ever come out of such an offseason and no one should be mentioning any other candidates even in jest. If anyone doubted the existence of an "East Coast Bias", I give you exhibit A. Heck, I've even seen Pennington as Comeback Player of the Year...how can Brees not be a lock for that?

I know, no respect!, but I just had to rant a little to get the sense of injustice off my chest...

Mangini is a real candidate. What he has done with the Jets has been nothing short of spectacular. Some of the things Mangini did in the preseason will change what other coaches do. Now with all that said he will be a very distant 2nd when the voting comes in. All these talking heads wouldn't be talking heads if they didn't have something to talk about.

My vote would actually go to Pennington for Comeback Player of the Year. The same surgery that Drew had, Pennington has had twice. No one thought he would ever lead a team to the playoffs again over the course of a full season. Drew will get Offensive Player of the Year (which is a better award anyway).

I'd also consider Javon Walker and Deuce for CPOY.

Who exactly brings in the talent and coaches said talent?

That whole "this team is more talented so they get penalized in the COY race" is pure bs.

Coaching doesn't end on Sundays.
