My wife and I recently separated and I moved out. I went by my old house to pick up a few things this morning and much to my surprise, and delight, Lawn Guy Dave was there going over some Spring options with my wife. He was busy packing my girls their lunch for the day. It's so funny and cute how they call him Uncle Dave. It's like they know him or something. Anyway, we talked about the Coach Pete tragedy and I thought I'd share his unique insights.

After the last lunch was packed and after he'd walked the girls to the school bus, Dave lit a Winston and spoke. "Drago I'm glad you stopped by. I just can't believe what's happening on Saints Report. I haven't seen unrest like this since Libya. I've been lurking on Saints Report for the past few months now since I got out of prison. When I saw Pete's initial information come out I knew this day would come. People just weren't ready for that kind of earth shattering information. It was too much for many people to mentally process."

At this point he seemed to get a little emotional. He spoke through clenched teeth and tears left tracks down his weathered face.

"Swimmer took a chance. Don't they see? He went out on a limb to get that information out to the people. And then what? And then what Drago! I'll tell you what, the limb broke and he fell. He hit every damn branch on his way down. Poor guy never stood a chance."

Then he had a far away look in his eyes and he spoke barely above a whisper.

"It's all over now though. It's all over. Pete's gone forever and Swimmer is left to pick up the pieces. They deserved better but I guess deserve doesn't have anything to do with it. Not when it comes to the internet. The internet can be so cruel. What if that would've been you they were making fun of on Twitter? Or god forbid, what if it was me? I would've called the boys at Langley and tracked down the internet tough guy. I mean, was it funny, yeah of course it was, but there's a line you don't cross and that line is the Special Olympics."

At this point my soon to be ex wife opened the door and asked Dave to hurry up because she wanted to go over her options. So Dave patted me on the shoulder and said "Duty calls my man. Duty calls." As he walked to the door I called out, "Dave, is it really over?" Without turning around he said, "The song is ended, but the melody lingers on." And with that he went inside.

Update 3-7-20 : I didn't want to start a new thread so I decided to update this one. Dave just sent me this text:

"Drago I just got some big news from one of my sources. You might want to sit down for this one! The Saints FO feels like this is a great group of WRs in the draft. They are exploring ways to draft one, maybe two, of them. They also have their eyes on a defensive player. I can't say his name but I can confirm he plays defense."

Beautiful and eloquent as always. Dave just always knows how to articulate that raw anger and energy that we all feel.

I agree. I could tell that all this has taken a toll on him. I've never seen him so visibly shaken. Even though Dave and Pete were rivals, there was always a mutual respect.
