Lawsuit against Reggie headed for failure?

A source with knowledge of the dynamics of the lawsuit filed by Lloyd Lake against Saints running back Reggie Bush tells us that Lake has responded to nearly 200 specific requests for documents supporting his claim by asserting the fifth amendment Constitutional protections against self-incrimination as to each of them.

Though the fifth amendment can be asserted in civil actions, doing so typically gives rise to an adverse inference against the party who raises it. When that party is the plaintiff, a decision needs to be made -- abandon the privilege, or abandon the case.

I hope this is resolved during the off-season.

So in other words, he wants the courts to believe he has all this evidence against Reggie, but doesn't want to release it because it will also incriminate him?

Can't have it both ways, Lake.

if anyone saw the real sports on hbo about this. it shows reggie is guilty. the guy has recording of reggie father saying you will get your money. this guys partner settled for 200 thousand only problem is he signed a confidentiality agreement. he cannot help this other guy. what is funy is reggie is shafting this guy for 300 thousand. all the guy said is he wants his money back. the house they got reggie parents has a cement slab with reggie's parents names n it lol and has evidence to back it up. this guys other partner had stronger evidence thats why they settled but this guy hasnt got a paper trail on reggie jut voice conversations.

I saw that. Reggie should have just settled with both of them. The phone conversations were damaging to say the least.

Sounds like the guy(s) of this sports agency still doesn't have a case. Simply put the sport agency brought an expensive house for Reggie's parents in order to pursue Reggie to sign with their company.

Bush refused and now the company wants the house back and threatening to destroy Reggie thru his family by writing a "kiss and tell" book about the situation but they don't have a real case because they don't have any real evidence of any wrong doing by Bush and his family.

Sports companies buy homes, cars, even jobs to players and/or their families to sign with them all the time.

These guys are just desparate and grasping at anytime to make money because their business failed.

They have no case. If they did then the guys who own that failing sports agency would have been sued Bush and his family a long time ago.

Actually, it appears he does have a case. However, he won't reveal it through the legal process since it could incriminate him.(op)

If this were the Mafia, it'd be called a shakedown.

the hbo show also said lake was going to talk to the ncaa. they said it could have potential impact on the usc season and reggie's heisman. not sure if the same legal rules apply in this instance regarding fifth amendment, or if the ncaa may just want to go on a witch hunt?

lake tried to leech off reggie but got played instead. way to go reggie, free college tuition, a car, and housing for your parents is the best way to take advantage of someone trying to take advantage of you.

The NCAA isn't in charge of who gets the heisman. Its an award given by the Downtown Atheletic Club. The Heisman is an individual achievment award. Theres little to no chance they go back and vote to take it away based on this.

As for USC, who cares what happens to them. My guess is nothing. The NCAA can't afford to punish its posterboy school unless they get 100% evidence shoved in their face.

Reggie's dad being on tape does not make Reggie guilty. It only means that his father was using his name to get things from other people. Reggie finds out what is going on later and decides he is not down with signing with Lake. So Lake gets angry because he feels he has been hosed by the father and now wants revenge. Reggie is innocent because he had no agreement/dealings with Lake yet he is guilty by his association with his father who got him caught up in this mess. Lake cannot produce anything to the courts because the preponderence of his evidence only reveals dealings with the father until later when Reggie finds out about the situation. Lake also recognizes that he, in many ways, attempted to solicit Reggie Bush when NCAA rules prohibit such tactics by agents.

the last word on this... or at least it should be.
