NFL League sets salary cap at record $279.2M for 2025 (24 Viewers)

Knowledgeable number crunchers, please let us know what this means for the Who Dat Nation

A little less than the current salary cap calculators, so we “lose” about $3m in space, but in the grand scheme of things, that’s an inconsequential amount.

We’re not going to NOT get something done because of the $3m shortage.

So it this the $5 to $10 million (or somewhere in between) raise that we were told to expect?

If it's a $7 Million rise instead of $10 million rise no big deal. But if it's $3 million less than the old projected number it's going to require some pretty significant additional work for Loomis to do what he said he wanted to do yesterday.

As in $3m less than the high water mark of the expected raise that most publications used as the new number following said raise.

Cool. So basically $7 million more than expected instead of $10 million more than expected. We can definitely work with that. That could give you the money to bring back Adebo or Young. Or allow you to spend on an Edge or Guard.

If I understood the original reports correctly the extra 10m can be split between this year and next. With a minimum of 5m having to be added this year and up to the full amount added. Most sites adjusted the numbers under the assumption that all 10m would be added this year. Now that we know it’s only 7m we will still get an extra 3m next year. Or did I totally misunderstand the original reports?

We could bring back Young and actually save money if we keep his average salary at less than 15 million a year. Definitely someone I want back on something like a 3/40 deal in that range.

Adebo could be signed also and keep his first year low, depending on what his market is

Correct…great point. The $3m lost this year simply moves to next year.

Sounds like nothing a quick void year on a random contract can’t handle if it somehow came down to being that tight.

The cap has certainly grown.

All true. I'm just saying that an extra $7 million is a mid-level free agent or a few lower level guys which we could really use given our injury problems and lack of depth.

But I would feel a lot better about our defense with Adebo and McKinstry at outside CB and Taylor in the slot. Along with a mid-level free agent, Young or someone better, on the edge.

Yeah I think ideally we could bring back Young and Adebo while still keeping 15 million or so in cap space to play with (after draft pick signings).

That 15 million could go a long way to filling a couple holes so we can focus on other needs in the draft. With it I would target

Justin Reid, Safety 28 years old
Mekhi Becton OG 26 years old
Teair Tart DT 28 years old

Avoid anyone that’s 30+ and only sign guys who’s contract would be expired by the time they are 32. Just picking up those 3 guys would open the door where we could trade up for someone like Carter if he falls to 5-6 and still have picks left to address TE and WR.

A plan like this is possible what Loomis has in mind when he says we will be active but responsible.
