Least talented offense since Ditka? (1 Viewer)

They fielded a team good enough to get off to a 5-2 start and up until that point was managing injuries, them it started to snowball and like most teams in that situation dropped 4 straight games.
….and did it while being displaced for 6 weeks.

This is because of injuries...Ditka's offense was putrid by design

Dikta's offense was flat out trash. Period!!
Greatest show on turf smoked us twice.

Couldn't even beat a winless expansion Cleveland team.

I'll say this about todays (2021) offense. The skill position players we have are a byproduct of a system that didn't need gamebreaking big ticket WRs to do what they were being asked. It's why players like Cooks and prime Kenny Stills were let go.

Somewhere around 2016, 2017 we lost our field stretching ability, we considered a 19 yard pass down the seam a deep ball. Our receivers were no longer running vertical routes to get separation they were running shorter lateral routes to get separation. Then by 2019, 2020...all we were doing was short outs, curls, slants, and zone squats we didn't need gamebreakers to do that...at all.

As a result, now that we want to open things up again, we're finding that we don't have the guys that can do it. So now, we need to go out and get them. Fix the receivers, fix the offense...and that goes for whoever ends up QBing.
