Let's keep Cooks another year, drive up value more, apply the option, and then trade him. (1 Viewer)

He got another year plus an option. Why not drive his value higher and get something better in return next year. Cooks wouldn't sabotage his value(Besides his vocal displeasure).

Not if he wants out. He's already shown that he will do **** to divide the locker room. Do you want to risk wasting a year with a poisoned locker room because you're too attached to a guy with great speed who wants out?

IDK these rumors are flying around the combine now if he can get us a first this year and something else I would be down with it if both first rounders are used to help our defense. A better D makes our offense that much better.

His value right now is higher because he is still under his rookie contract. Teams don't have to pay him a lot money for another year and can keep him for another if they decide to exercise his fifth year option. If other teams do decide to let him go, it wouldn't cost them any. Reason why trade in the NFL is rare is because of the contract players have with their current team. Keeping Cooks another year would only gives us no better than a third or fourth pick for next year.

I'm starting to hop on the train of trading him.
Send him to the jets where players careers go
to waste. Or Cleveland, or any team with an
average qb.

Fallacious reasoning, his trade value is in all probability higher now. Rookie contract, a year younger. Not to mention the risk of injury and more public signs of dissatisfaction.

I am not saying we should trade him now, just that his value is probably higher this year than next

Not if he wants to get paid. If he was on a 2nd deal, then I'd be right there with you saying we gotta get what we can and cut bait.

However, dude is on his rookie contract. He's not dumb enough to screw himself out of millions because if the production isn't there, he won't get paid.

It is, and there is a higher percentage change that he does not produce next season in the same manner etc, leading to the same guys coming back in here saying, "Why didn't we trade him...?".

As much work as Sean Payton has done to retool the locker room chemistry on this team, there's no way that Cooks stays now.

No offense, but I think that would be a horrible idea.

1. It would be bad for the locker room

2. The closer he gets to free agency, the more likely teams will be to wait until they can just sign him without giving up anything.

It's 100% fact he's gone. After his snapchat and twitter rant acting like a fool he's gone. I wish our roster was in better shape so we could send him to Cleveland for a 6th and 7th.

Social media is the Bane of pro-sports. I can see a time coming where players and coaching contracts will require team approval before they are submitted.

Another year older, more wear and tear on the body? No thanks. If you trade him, now is the opportune time. Don't want to trade him, but if he doesn't want to be here, then you have to get 1st round value while we can.
