Let's talk burgers! (1 Viewer)

Anytime I go to a new restaurant I get either steak or a burger medium, that way I can gauge how they make their food.

If I'm making them, I do medium/medium rare with my steak and medium with my burgers.

I have a BGE and I always feel like it's a lot of work unless I'm having a BBQ with a bunch of people. Maybe I'm being lazy...

You should do what I did and buy your kid a mini-max and use it for times when there's only 3 or 4 and you want it quick.

I can light it with a torch or looftlighter, go inside and prep the burgers and stuff and by the time I'm ready to put them on the grill is hot. 10 minutes is enough.

That is brilliant! Didn't know they even made those! So much easier than lighting up the large for 4 burgers! Thanks I'm headed up to my egg place to see if they have them in stock.

I get get the large up to temp in 10-15 minutes too. Using used lump will make it quicker, and you don't have to let the ceramics heat to just cook burgers.

Where is a good place for a burger in the DC area? I've tried Five Guys, Elevation Burger, Fudds, and Foster's (current favorite). Any other suggestions? Home cooked is the best tho.

If you like flame-grilled like Foster's you'll probably like The Burger Joint (also known as BGR). I go there whenever I don't feel like Five Guys, which is rare.

I grill a lot and would almost rather a good burger than steak. Almost...

I have been thinking about getting a BGE. I've used Weber charcoal grills for decades, but the idea of the BGE makes a lot of sense. However, A gas grill came with my new house and I've never cooked with gas, always charcoal. Once I get settled, I plan to try the gas grill but if it is not to my liking a BGE will be on my things-to-get list. Dealer just about 2 minutes from my house.

Sorry, thread jack over. :covri:

Nice grill. I have a combo grill. When I'm grilling for just my wife and I, I use the gas for convenience. When I'm grilling for larger crowds I usually use charcoal.

Steaks med rare, burgers medium.

Anything else is fail.

this, this, this, and more of this^^^^

Getting a steak anytihing over medium is a crime and you should be slapped. I was a waiter at three different restaurants (two of them being steakhouses) and I would cringe when someone ordered a steak well or med. well. :covri:

Then when they ask for ketchup or steak sauce I would want to slap them in the face. If you have to drown your steak in a sauce to mask the burnt flavor you are doing it wrong. :aargh2:

I love big, fat burgers that are basically steak tartare with a sear on the outside -- like Port o' Call. They grind their own (or so they say -- I've never been in their kitchen), so there's less of a risk than buying meat that was ground at the processing plant w/God knows what.

For Christmas, my wife got a nice stand mixer, and I got the meat grinder attachment. Oh man, is it ever awesome. Now I can grind my own chuck, make my own sausage... Here are some food-porn pics I took because I'm one of "those" annoying people (don't friend me on Facebook).

What about making garlic-butter, or herb-butter, or blue cheese-butter sauce? Or a peppercorn-whiskey sauce?

what a bunch of sissies in this thread...

steak tartare tonight

if you're eating a burger more than medium, might as well save some money and eat the charcoal

and if you go to a restaurant, ask if they will cook a burger less than well done and if they say, "no," you leave

Raw ground meat AND a raw egg! That's dining to the extreme!

Will check it out. I still love Five Guys, just bored with it and looking for something different. Thanks for the suggestion.

Only thing missing, a ring of fugu sashimi around it :hihi:
