Lombardi, Jimmy Johnson, Belichick, Walsh, Shula couldn’t scheme this team to win with this many injuries (1 Viewer)

We are not winning but the team is playing hard. The 4th string players are stepping up admirably but it's just not enough and that's ok. We are just a few pieces away from competing again and if we were healthy we could be in the mix this year even with limited talent at WR/TE.

Start Taysom. At least he was entertaining. That finger injury definitely caused his throws to be off but his legs looked good. I'd rather be entertained and lose than lose with 120 yards of offense all game.

I agree, this current offensive roster is absolutely bereft of talent. Last night, with the injuries, was collectively the worst offensive team I can remember being on a superdome field since whatever it was LSU did against Alabama in the '12 Natl Championship game.

Missing 2 pro bowl tackles and your 'pro bowl' left guard. 3/5 lineman. Ruiz is at best a project, and at worst a rotational lineman. McCoy is solid.

WR and TE. This is where it just gets, beyond the point of understandable. These are the yardage rankings - and keep in mind most teams have only played 11 games. We have played 12. These are our receiving options (excluding Kamara) that rank in the top 150. Callaway (70th in receptions, 106th in yards) was all the rage in the preseason. He was ready to step up.

Callaway - 70th
Harris - 48th
Smith - 124th
Trautman - 128th

Think about that. We've played 1 more game than most teams, and our top receiver is 48th. There are only 32 teams. And Harris is mostly a shock play guy. He is 87th is receptions. AND he is also our highest ranked receiving option as far as receptions.

I think its hard to even grasp that. Weve played 1 more game that most teams. Our leader in receptions in 87th, and yards 48th. And Harris isnt a WR1. He isnt a true WR2. He is a WR3 to probably a WR4 used very specifically in an offense. And all this, we knew this last year that after CGM got hurt, there was a giant hole at WR2. You cant count on TQS because of injuries. Callaway was a 2nd year UDFA that we just expected too much from. Trautman was supposed to slide into the TE1, but he also just wasnt ready for that role but we didnt address TE in FA or the draft. We saw all of this last april, and we spent another 1st round pick on a DE - who has missed 7 out of 12 games this season, who plays the same position as a guy we spent 2 1st round picks on, who has missed half of this season.

Hill just isnt a NFL, every down QB. He is a master of gadget plays. He can play anywhere on the offense. THAT is his strength. Sort of the Jeet Kune Do of football. Taysoms position, is no position. Let him be that guy.

All that equals to the OP being right. No coach in NFL history couldve guided that team to a win last night. The fact that we only lost by 10 is the biggest mystery of the whole thing.

dude your killing it today. spot on. all of it.

I think it really hits home when you can actually see a list of the guys that have missed time… and remember, this isn’t counting the hurricane displacement or the COVID game vs the Panties…

The following is a list of Saints players that have missed multiple games this season:

-Jameis Winston (#1 QB, gone for year)
-Taysom Hill (#2 QB and multi tool)
-Alvin Kamara (3)
-Mark Ingram
-Alex Armah (starting FB)
-Adam Trautman (#1 TE, gone for year)
-Michael Thomas (#1 WR; setback cost him entire season)
-Andrus Peat (starting LG, gone for year)
-Erik McCoy (#1 C, missed time early in season)
-Terron Armstead (starting LT)
-Ryan Ramcyzk (starting RT)
-Trequan Smith (#2 WR, missed time early on)
-Nick Vannett (#2 TE and blocking specialist)

*Defense*
-Marcus Davenport (Best current DE on the roster)
-David Onyemata (Best DT on roster)
-Payton Turner (1st round pick DE)
-Tanoh Kpassigno (sp?) (Key depth DE)
-Kwon Alexander (LB did a stint on IR)
-Chauncey Gardner-Johnson (starting Nickel DB)

***Will Lutz (Kicker, gone for season… directly resulted in 2 Losses)

That’s 19 players that missed multiple games!!!!! I left Armah off of that total, but FB is actually fairly important for this offense.

Now they’re in a spot where at any time, their de facto #1 WR Deonte Harris, can be issued a 3 game ban for a DUI!!!!

It’s truly unbelievable!

Carlos Ruiz (arguably the worst starter on the OL) is the only O-lineman that hasn’t missed multiple games this season! I also didn’t mention that Landon Young started at LT one game and was promptly lost for the season as well.

I realize “injuries happen”… but not like this! Not this many!

The Titans have dealt with more injuries than we have, and they're leading their division at 8-4.
There’s no way… and they haven’t dealt with even close to the number of key injuries to starters like the Saints.
They lost Henry and some other “guys”… most of them not for the entire season.
