Looking for some help with a bigscreen tv... (1 Viewer)

I have a friend that has a big screen projection tv and it is starting to show a double image periodically. It looks like it is showing one frame about an inch lower than another. It is not scrolling up and down just flickering with two images of the same thing.

Does anyone have any ideas of what the problem could be? If so, is it a pricey fix and is it a do it yourself project?

The tv is a Sony 46 inch projection tv.
