i've lived in neighborhoods since i was 6 years old. i never understood ppl watering their grass. i understand liking a green yard. but at some point should use your head. one of my neighbors waters during the spring/summer everyday for at least an hour. water rushing down the driveway into the storm drains.

then texts me if my water bill is high? um no, i dont blow it on my lawn.

I think this will be Musk next big investment. I know they’ve already developed grass that can be watered with ocean water.

Seems like that could be part of the answer too. Thinking outside the box, what of a company sold reservoirs and brought tanker trucks of bayou water around to fill them upon request. Couldn’t this me done slightly cheaper than the same volume of tap water? You could also run your roof drains into it to give you some water.
It’s the right approach but such a hard sell - trying to convince SELa folk to capture water vs finding better ways to get rid of it

Just FYI. They are expecting a gas shortage too

Is that what’s going on now?
I knew the winter storms in Tx caused a price hike, but I was thinking it should have come down from that by now

The chemical companies draw millions of free gallons of free groundwater every day.

I didn't even realize places in South LA used groundwater. I guess I assumed that most places used river water like we do along the Mississippi.

I hope so. I work in O&G. We have been crippled. So everyone get driving this summer. If not traveling by car, make sure you start flying. Gasoline consumption is currently at 95% of what it was, pre pandemic. Jet fuel consumption is still down, which is a big loss, as jet fuel is produced as a side component to gasoline in a refinery. There has been no place to store all of the jet fuel. Current world wide jet fuel consumption is at 75% of pre pandemic. Donestically, jet fuel consumption is at 95%.

And in California, they will be paying $5 or more per gal., by Memorial Day weekend. Increased excise taxes by California, in an attempt to force renewable fuel manufacturing thru incentives, is having a huge impact on their refiniries. And the union workers out there, are none to happy. It may lead to refinery shutdowns, driving gasoline prices and jet fuel prices up even more.

Get driving and traveling everybody!!! Go see grandma and grandpa in person. It has been a while. 😎

Chemical companies? Please enlighten. Thanks!

You mean companies that make, what type of chemical?

Cannot make enough gasoline, partially due to the fact, kerosene (jet fuel) is a side product of gasoline production. Refiniries need to throttle back on their gasoline production, so as to not over produce kerosene. It is a very tricky and challenging dynamic. No place to store the over production of kerosene, once finished. They can move the gasoline, as domestic consumption is at 95% of pre pandemic consumption. Jet fuel overall, world wide, is still only at 75% consumption.

On a side note. If the feds raise the excise tax rate even more, you (and I) and everyone else, will be paying $4+/gal. for gasoline in the near future, as domestic refiniries will start to shutdown. O&G companies will begin refining oil overseas in greater numbers, due to less refining cost and importing the finished fuels/products back stateside as needed to meet demand.

Never would I have envisioned, that at some point in my life, would I see refineries go dark in the U.S.; NEVER! But now? Nothing is unthinkable.

But you might get stuck with grandma and grandpa if you run out of gas. I do agree more people need to ride bicycles and I know during this pandemic they have been out of stock of those too.
