That actually makes sense. Mountain lion attacks are pretty rare, but if this was it's first winter without its mother (which, based on its size, it probably was) then it might have been struggling to find prey, making it more likely try to hunt the runner. Older, savvier lions would be less likely to need to resort to human prey.i like the story less now that i read it
