There's no other way to say it. This dude is a liability out there. Anyone else feel as though his play has declined? He may get the Ken Crawley treatment next season.

I don't like the defensive scheme we played against the Steelers. Too much zone. I would have liked to have seen press man with two safeties over the top. Pittsburgh ate our lunch in zone. I don't blame Williams for Dennis Allen's scheme in that game. And Allen didn't adjust. We were very fortunate to come up with some timely turnovers, or else we would have lost that game.
I’m not sure how we could play press man when they are going 5 wide half the game. Pretty sure that was their plan to get us out of man, and it worked...just not quite enough.

I agree with you that he should provide more evidence to back up his claims, but even without it, just from watching the games we can see MW hasn’t been anything great. I like the kid and think he has talent, but Kurt Coleman got a lot of stick early in the season so it’s only fair with MW also.
Coleman? He isn't even starting. We already know he isn't that good. Everyone agrees to that. But how people are going to single out one player who has been playing very well for most of the season after one mediocre game. If you based on yesterday game, you will have to call out like 10 players for their plays yesterday.

Getting real fed up with posters giving me a dead bird symbol instead of actually arguing why my point isn't correct.
Just a guess, but maybe it's because this is the second thread you start to bash a current player the day after the team secured HFA. You sound like a troll to me, but I'll spare you the dead falcon.

You actually didn’t really site anything to refute, just your impression. So I, and many others, have given you a dead bird. For me, if you’re going to knock one of our guys, it better site specifics and be compared to the other 31 starters at that position.

Besides that, this team is 13-2 and just locked up the 1 seed.

There’s been several games where MW hasn’t been good. Not just yesterday lol. But if you think he’s been great all year then you’re entitled to believe that. I think he’ll improve.

100% agree. Lattimore was dominating AB in man to man. Then they completed that one back shoulder throw against him and Allen panicked and went to straight soft zone. Allow them to catch whatever but just make the tackle.

Also, Coleman needs to be cut after that blown bracket coverage on the TD to AB. Latt didnt get worked like that. He was expecting Coleman to be over the top so he could stay underneath and mirror AB. Coleman 100% screwed every part of that coverage up and Ben knew it before the ball was snapped. That's why it came out so fast.

Yes, the 5 wide gave us fits, but Lattimore needed to be up on AB at the line jamming him. We kept allowing a free release and Lattimore kept passing him off into open space. It was a really poor design, and we didn't adjust. Very frustrating.

I’m more astounded that we just clinched the #1 seed in the ENTIRE NFC and we still have Negative Nancy’s (OP)on this board!

Not only that but no matter what anyone else does next week they will finish with the best record in the NFL this season!!

That's something that they've never done!!

Pro Football Focus has MW as #27 safety, which puts him in the above average category. They seem t be pretty good at these rankings things.

So I’m good with that, and certainly not going to judge him too critically against Antonio Brown and Schuster.

Defense has been playing out their minds lately. You not gone just dominate everyone. The other man earns a game check too.

Hes had his downs , hes had his ups. A liability has no ups.

Give the young buck time. He can play. His mistakes are communication based which is really on the entire defense and playcalling.

Mod Edit - Copy & Paste post was a mess. - Andrus

Not gonna call him the worst FS in the league but if this was baseball and he played Centerfield, he would never catch popflies whether over his head, especially wouldn't catch any in front of him. QBs around the league try him way too much because of this. FS position isn't hard at all especially when your assignments in Cover 2 and Cover 3 are simple and to point by Senior year of highschool. The lightbulb simply has not come on especially when reading the QBs eyes and or routes with said coverages called.

I scream at him every week, every game. Nowhere to be found when we're in Cover 3 and the who's who of QBs start to carve the middle of the field up. It has gotten old. He does not deserve a pass, I'm certain they're are a few who will, stating that he has help responsibilities, yeah maybe in man, maybe in Cover 4 and 6, what about s FSs dream(Cover 3) he's lost. Bout like Kenny Vaccaro. Cover 3 has the easiest responsibilities for Dbs in any formation. It's rather embarrassing to say the least...

Am I the only one that seemed to notice how much confusion in communication we were having yesterday? There were ALOT of plays where guys where making their calls and alignments late, looking around, not taking on the bunch all kinds of stuff. There was a case to be made for more than Williams being out of alignment.

Now from my experience, when you see all that confusion, it usually boils down to SCHEME. Likely DA had put something in for this game and how the Steelers run their formations. Makes sense since they had JuJu AB and A big TE. Likely Pittsburg came out in some stuff that wasn’t on film and there were some communication errors.

Confusion on defence leads to being out of position as a unit. I think as a secondary we needed to be a lot better, however I would lean towards blaming the gameplan than any individual player.

And with that being said, I’m not blaming the gameplan in a way that is negative like we got beat. We still won and still made the plays to win. Just sometimes as you know the plan is a little off and you have to retool on the fly and I think we did.

We just played the best WR combo in the league and it's not close.

Before yesterday, we had shut the deep ball down for the better part of the last 8 weeks (and certainly the last 4 weeks). Williams was part of that. Bad games happen.

Hold up... Did you not agree with the OP that he is a liability?

Because a liability is not the same as "anything but great".

Say what you mean... Mean what you say.
