Last night during the LSU/ Clemson game I saw one of the most appalling things ever, a New Orleans native wearing Mardi Gras beads when he wasn’t at a parade, and beads that were bought/given to him for the game.

I am no clothing or accessories snob, and I have a very Laissez-faire approach to life, but if your a New Orleans native you would hopefully know the code. The sadder thing is that the tourists he was sitting next to weren’t wearing beads, so the local looked like “the mark” or as a tourist.

So my big question is, when is it okay to wear Mardi Gras beads?

I think anytime during carnival it’s at the wearer’s discretion.

Wearing them to the NGC in the Dome where LSU is playing doesn’t strike me as an offense. Had it been before epiphany, I would agree it’s not appropriate.

2 weeks away from Mardi Gras season is well within the scope of time allowance.

El’s question seems less about timing than about how did the wearer come by the beads?
If you catch the beads from a float, wear the proudly
If you bought them in an airport kiosk, wait til you get back to Utah to show them off
