Marvel getting desperate (2 Viewers)

sure, but the context is the slamming together of covid and the streaming wars
streaming platforms were already in an arms race when covid hit - it's hard to monday morning QB decisions disney, apple, amazon, netflix, hbo, et al made at the time
Apple & Amazon probably came out the least scathed, but that's probably bc they had better capacity to absorb and weren't already behemoths
i promise you very few of us were home during covid wishing they'd turn down the spigots - we're now all overfed and bloated with content and blaming the content providers and not addressing our consumption habits
True dat. I think we tend to forget and underestimate the effect Covid had on the entertainment industry. And the strikes just sort of continues the ongoing changes in the industry.

It amazes me - we tend to forget the effects of covid on EVERYTHING- it’s like we all subconsciously agreed to pretend it never happened and our lives were completely unaffected

this feels like an argument in search of evidence - the prequels were (mostly) garbage - nothing excellent or amazing about it
Disney saved SW from Lucas's worst impulses
episodes 7 & 8, while not great were better than 1-3
Andor, much of Mando, Bad Batch, Ahsoka, Rebels, Visions, Tales of the Jedi have all been good to great additions to Star Wars

Loki, Ms Marvel, Wandavision, Werewolf by night, much of Moonknight, Far from Home, GotG 3, What If, Shang-chi, some of She-Hulk have been good to great as well
and what misses there have been have been meh - only one or two stinkers

the "DISNEY!!!" critique is banal and unserious
Banal and unserious......

While Lucas did overindulge on the CGI, Star Wars is his. It's his story to tell. The prequels, in my opinion, were far superior to the Disney run seven, eight and nine, with the exception of TPM. That was just....bad. With regards to the seven, eight and nine, while they were fun, they were fan serviced, retelling of the original three. I enjoyed them but they were filler and money grabs. While the shows you have listed are fair to good, it's overkill. The magic of Marvel and Star Wars was the wait. Well, Disney (yes, that banal and unserious critique you speak of) has flooded the market thereby diminishing demand.

With regards to Disney, I have family that work for Disney. They have been a part of our family for generations. Love the parks. The magic and so on. Disney, however, has for lack of a better term, has diminished the want and magic of Star Wars and Marvel. When Star Wars and Marvel came out, it was how big are they going to be? Now that Disney has taken over, it's how much is it going to lose.

Contrary to your statement, I would say that the Disney critique is not banal and unserious but a truth that we fans don't want to acknowledge. Disney is a corporation and the two franchises have gone corporate. You go corporate, you lose a lot.

The critique is so serious that South Park intorduced us to the Panderstone.......

Thought about putting this in the Marvels thread, since it's related, but I think it fits better here.

If this is the case, Marvel Studios is imploding.
That seems to be a premature and possibly even exaggerated title. I'm not really seeing that move away from Kang, at least not from someone really in the know. Seems like speculation more than anything else.

There's a lot tbd, so I'd rather wait and see.

Could certainly be speculation. I find it hard to believe that they've stuck with Majors this long just to drop the Kang plans now. Still, if this does come to pass, that is a BAD sign for Marvel Studios.

Yeah, we'll see.

One of my podcasts is by the woman who wrote the latest Marvel book (just adding bc she has some inside contacts)
In the final Loki pod they were talking about everyone who was surprised Marvel didn’t delay releasing Loki, but some of the inside people wanted to release on time bc the ambiguity of the ending- as it stands now Kang is a distant threat but not a looming danger
- also speculation (not sure from whom) that Dr Doom could easily port into the villain role as it stands now

None of this was trying to predict what will happen just that Marvel is comfortable in this wait and see place

8 minute New Rockstars vid that goes into detail about ^ (it also cites the pod i was talking about)

tangentially it did mention that Majors trial starts November 29th (i think that's what he said) - Majors was unable to get it dismissed

I don't doubt he'd be a great Reed Richard, but he'd definitely be a much different RR than what we're used to.
It seems to me that Reed is the easiest character to cast. The more difficult would be Johnny and Ben. Those two will either be a hit or a disaster.

Johnny i could see being a bit difficult, but depending on how much backstory they include, Ben would be judged on his CGI form and voice acting for the most part, no? As long as he looks on point and "It's clobberin' time" sounds good, i think it wouldn't be hard to find someone suitable
