It works for Senior Citizens.

Why not remove the age requirement and open it up to everyone?

I've often wondered if we would be best served by providing emergency care to all citizens,

Essentially, that's what we do now. No one is turned away from emergency rooms, and the unpaid costs are spread to all paying patients. One of the top goals of any health care reform has to be getting as many patients as possible out of the emergency room and into more cost effective (as well as less stressed) environments.

As for the OP: Medicare for All = The Public Option that was so dearly needed in the ACA.

Yay Socialism! What else would you ban? Maybe sugar? Salt? What about meat? Slippery slope...

How about beer?

If I am not mistaken, people "put into" Medicare all their work life. When they reach a certain age they may start using the benefits. If we opened it up to everyone, a new revenue source would be required.

Unless you(OP) are simply suggesting "free" Healthcare for all?

I don't know if he's suggesting it, but I am.

We will eventually do away with free-market healthcare. It's a ridiculous premise on borrowed time.

Cancel the F-35 and there you go.

There is plenty of money to do just about whatever you want in healthcare, education, etc. It's just a matter what what you feel is most important.

This is America, hone of the free and the brave. We are the world's melting pot. Bring us your tired, your weak, your huddled masses...

So of course we value greed over all other...

My understanding is that doctors hate medicare because it has price controls, and from what I've been told some even refuse to take on medicare patients (or only take on the minimal required by law) because of this.

Healthcare expenditures in this country was 3.2 trillion dollars for 2015 alone.

1.4 trillion is the total cost for over 2,000 planes and 20+ years of maintenance. That same 1.4 trillion will barely cover ONE year of Medicare and Medicaid. Let alone the healthcare costs for the rest of the country.

I get what you are saying but reality is something different.

Well, it's a start.

Most take Medicare. Medicaid not so much.
