[Merged] N/S- Henry Ruggs car accident in Vegas (update from old thread) (1 Viewer)

Yeah, if it's 2 years jail, plus 1 year suspension from the league, it will be very tough for him to come back after 3 years out of the league.
Yeah, and that 2 years is best case scenario. I think most people in Nevada who are sentenced for a similar offense get more like 10-20. Even if it’s their 1st DUI.

Have a friend who right out of college killed two people driving drunk in a head on collision.

He served 15 of his 18 year sentence. The only thing that prevented the maximum sentence was the other driver was drunk as well.

The whole experience changed him and something he lives with daily. The best thing to come out of it is he has never touched alcohol again.
Not defending Ruggs, but this sort of thing is going on in the lives of a lot of our young people, not just the high profile profess sports athletes, but those in college and in high school. A lot of it is covered up and most of it isn’t leading to high profile deaths. This is an issue that needs to be addressed out in the open. It’s not because people don’t want to expose their kids.

Most of us don't have the resources or millions of dollars on the line either.
Doesn’t matter whether it’s money on the line. It just shouldn’t be happening. Money shouldn’t be the motivating factor to stop it. One would think however that that that much money would be. Unfortunately, it seems to be just the opposite.

This is so unfortunate for the victim and stupid by Ruggs. The NFL has done a good job of trying to get guys from driving intoxicated by setting up Dd's that are available any time for players. Completely life changing for all involved.
To this day, I still don't know why rich young people don't just get their own driver. I would love to be able to get wasted (when I was younger) and have someone drive me home.

There is a lot of hypocrisy in this thread. I would say it's safe to say that 90% of us have messed up and driven home impaired. We all got lucky that we did make it home unscathed. Yes, there is a lot of options to get home safe now, but alcohol doesn't care about all of that. It makes you forget all of that. Most of us live in Louisiana and in this case Las Vegas where it's really easy to go out and get drinks. This young man made a huge mistake and he will have to pay for it for the rest of his life. He pays tribute to one of his best friends who died the same way. I'm sure the pain he is going to feel for this happening is gonna haunt him the rest of his life.

You live in Vegas. What if it was your or someone in your family in the other car? Are you still going to defend him?

I guess we'll see. Just know that the Raiders already have their own laywers working on this and I suspect they'll do whatever they can to protect their investment. Whether we agree with it or not, Ruggs will have representation with the resources to try to get him the most lenient punishment they can.

And we don't know all the facts of the case. If the car was stopped in the middle of the road and not at an intersection, that would probably lead to a different outcome than if stopped at a traffic light. In court, the known facts will, or should matter.

With luck he will receive a fair trial, not a fare trial.

I know someone who walked away from three different fatal car accidents where all of his friends died and he was the only survivor - all three times. That isn't something I'd want to be known for. Talk about a case of survivor's guilt.

My cousin's husband beat his former best friend within an inch of his life while he was drunk because he found out that his friend had been sleeping with his mom. Needless to say, he probably would have gone after him and pounded him even if he'd been sober when he found out, but he probably would have stopped before earning himself a felony prison sentence. He hasn't touched a drop of liquor ever since he got out of prison. He doesn't question whether or not he's an "alcoholic" or not, he just knows that he only allows himself to do stupid things/make terrible decisions after he's been drinking. I've always really respected him for that.

Oh I agree 100%. He may even get acquitted, or the charges dropped. I’m not pretending to know all the facts.
