Michael Irvin teaches racial tolerance (1 Viewer)

Did anybody hear Michael Irvin on the Dan Patrick show the other day? Long story short, he thinks Tony Romo's grandma must have "gone down to the hood back in the day" (Irvin quote, not mine) because to be as athletic as he is, he must be part black.
Here's a recap from ESPN:

“… [there must be] some brothers in that line somewhere … (laughs to himself) somewhere there are some brothers … I don’t know who saw what, where …. [maybe] his great, great, great, great Grandma ran over in the hood or something went down … (laughter)”

Dan Patrick, sensing disaster, jumps in and says, ‘that’s the only way to be a great athlete?’

Irvin comes back with, “No, that’s not the only way … but it’s certainly one way … [maybe his] great, great, great, great Grandma pulled one of them studs up outta the barn [and said] ‘come here for a second’ … back in the day …(more sinister laughter)”

Michael Irvin is a racist. Where is the outrage for this instance, or do we just chalk it up as another ******* comment by Michael "I swear it's just flour" Irvin?
With all the attention issues of race have been getting lately, you'd think there would be some reaction...maybe it's coming. Maybe it has already come and I just haven't heard any of the fallout.

God bless Mike Freeman,from CBS Sportsline, who wrote an excellent response article after hearing Irvin's comments. Freeman wrote:

"If blacks are to fight the plague that is racial ugliness -- and racism remains one of the great threats to the Republic, no question about it, just ask that Seinfeld loser or Mel Gibson -- then we have to be honest with ourselves. We cannot blast whites for committing acts of racial stereotyping then remain silent when one of us does the exact same thing."

I know the saying "why can't we all just get along" sounds tired, but seriously, why can't we just see one another as human beings...regardless of color, regardless of orientation, regardless of weight, regardless of hair(or lack there-of) and regardless of religious beliefs. We are all human. We bleed, we sweat, we cry, and we all have the capacity to hate or to love.

I'm sick of this. I'm sick of hearing things like Kramer's disgusting tirade, Fisher DeBerry's idiotic comments, and now Irvin's. We can't fight the stereotyping and racism by ourselves, though, we have to come together across racial lines and commit to working together to put an end to this crap.

In reality Jimmy gave a more intelligent explanation with a strong basis in reality and should have never been fired. Irvin is just proving, once again, that cocaine is a helluva drug.

I don't have a problem with his comments, really; I just have a problem with the hypersensitivity on all comments with any potential racial implications in the past.
The solution is not to police everyone on everything they say, to the point everyone is scared to say anything that might be the least bit interesting, but to allow everyone frankly speak and be equally judged. My problem with "blacks" who say things that might be "racist" is the double stand standard on which they are judged. The solution isn't to put a muzzle on everyone, but to let everyone express themselves and let free market determine who gets to keep their jobs.
