VENICE (Reuters) - Capitalism is evil. That is the conclusion U.S. documentary maker Michael Moore comes to in his latest movie "Capitalism: A Love Story," which premieres at the Venice film festival Sunday.

Blending his trademark humor with tragic individual stories, archive footage and publicity stunts, the 55-year-old launches an all out attack on the capitalist system, arguing that it benefits the rich and condemns millions to poverty.

"Capitalism is an evil, and you cannot regulate evil," the two-hour movie concludes.

"You have to eliminate it and replace it with something that is good for all people and that something is democracy."

Democracy isn't an economic system.....

And is anyone remotely surprised by this?

I never suspected he thought any other way.

If Micheal Moore believes that Capitalism, even mixed in with a social welfare economy is bad, or is beyond reform or regulation, then he is a more of a fool then I thought he was 5-6 years ago. I'll give him credit though, this will get his fat *** in the papers again spewing more inane left wing rhetoric that most people will view, both liberals and conservatives, for mere entertainment value then any factual misinformation, which as we well know, he's been pretty good at it with numerous mistakes in his movies, which he all refers as "the truth" but then he cleverly backtracks it all desribing as an Op-ed documentary. But hey It's a good career move, Bush isn't in office anymore, so he goes off into new realms making vague assertions or controversial assertations relating to Marx, Engels, Hegel, Adam Smith, probably without studying in-depth what in the hell they were all talking about and how all of their theories of themselves have not come the way they thought they would.

Moore should go away from trying to be an economic analyst/historian, he fail at that a lot worse then making big budget documentary which would makes other more respectable people in that field look bad or cringe upon heaing his name, at least the self-resoecting ones.

People like Michael Moore damage the Left the same way people like Glenn Beck damage the Right. It's high time both sides of the aisle euthanize these rabid dogs they have and begin having real discussions again.

I wonder what Michael Moore's net worth is? I haven't heard of him giving away the millions upon millions he's made from his movies.

Moore is mistaken, capitalism is not evil. It is amoral. there is a difference, although there is also a little overlap.

I agree. And him saying that we need to support Obama to kill capitalism is going to do more to hurt Obama than anything Rush or Beck could possibly do to him.

A free market system is not amoral. Only those individuals who abuse it are the ones who are amoral.

I read the article but did not see this part. Where did Moore say this?

mister, If that is what you believe, then what would you call a social welfare economy, which mixes elements of capitalism and socialism within a democratic framework. Many European countries since WWII have had adopted this economy, starting in Germany with the man who resurrected "the German Economic Miracle" along with the Marshall Plan. This was his idea, he, like many others at the time, believed in the idea of free market enterprise, but he and Maynord Keynes felt that laissez-faire economics of the previous century were outdated, and needed a rebooted image. This was the start of the social welfare economy, which IMO this country will have to fully accept and embrace as we go further into the 21st century.

But come on, pc, you of all people you should know better then to take statements like these at mere face value. I do not believe mixing both types is a bad thing either, in fact it's been proven to work for decades now. But it still has many elements of capitalism inbedded into it that are helpful rather then a detriment to society overall. That to me makes it a benefit and certainly shows Micheal Moore either didn't do his homework or didn't bother to mention the more in-depth specifics of complicated topics like these.

Which BTW, he's showed us all before he does with the best of them with a wink, a smile, and a ****-faced smugness that leaves me and quite a few other people disgusted and no we're not all right wing social conservatives either.

the individuals who abuse it are immoral. The free market system is entirely amoral. the only thing that matters is making a profit, there is no right and wrong, only profits and losses. in a free market system, the good capitalist does everything within the law to turn a profit for himself and his shareholders, morality never factors into it.
a⋅mor⋅al
–adjective

1. not involving questions of right or wrong; without moral quality; neither moral nor immoral.
2. having no moral standards, restraints, or principles; unaware of or indifferent to questions of right or wrong: a completely amoral person.
