Mickey Loomis knows what he doing(Loomis appreciation thread) (1 Viewer)

They(Ravens) paid Flacco quick and cut half the defense. Could come back to haunt them.

also please read BobE's stat post.

Thank you.

Do I dare post Ozzie Newsome's GM resume?
Thank You!

All he does is draft legends (Lewis, Reed, Suggs, etc), make those great trades (Boldin, Tucker), and make necessary cut of dead weight (Cam Cameron halfway through the season and still win a Championship). He has kept his team competitive on both sides of the ball for the longest time. Something we don't know about.

Why they leaving him then? Ravens the big loser in F.A, right now.
They said they made mistake after the 1st SB of trying of keep everyone, and this time around the priority was the QB (no way u let him walk). They'll be okay they know how to build thru the draft (especially since now they have a franchise OB).

Whatever. Loomis takes the cautious/patience approach. Indy follows the same method.. It is the Bill Polian way. You want rush to judgement, get someone quick spending spree go see the Dallas GM/Owner and see where that gets you these days.

It was discussed throughout the season that this was really the last hurrah for the Ravens defense as it had existed. Now that Newsome is keeping to that direction, everyone is freaking out. Except he is a really smart General Manager, and always seems to have a plan. Ellerbe wasn’t a starter until Jameel McClain was injured, and now the sky is falling because he wasn’t resigned. Kruger wasn’t effective until this year, and Courtney Upshaw is waiting in the wings anyway. Torrey Smith is entering his third year, when wide receivers usually make the biggest career leap, and Jacoby Jones looks like he can assume the number two role. They have some talented younger players that they feel can be productive. And yet, even with the discussion of all this taking place dating back to last offseason, and the obvious plan in place by a top notch GM, folks want to blame Flacco’s contract and declare the Ravens losers already. And some of the same people doing so are those who are going around killing the Saints for keeping their old and terribly overpaid and overrated players on the roster and not playing the awesome late rounder’s and undrafted free agents who are so obviously better. It actually hurts my head sometimes.
Posted this in the Pollard thread. Thought it would be appropriate here.

See Crosswatt's post. It's not all about spending spree.
Example: Drew outperforms his contract and it takes from 2011-2012 to get a deal done.
Harper has 1 good year and we reward him with a huge *** contract (that no one else would have offered him).
Smith next year (he could get cut- I know) is slated to make QB' $$$.
Graham can be argued as the best TE in the NFL, but he has yet to get a new contract.

Loomis is not above mistakes. He has made some.

Interesting--yesterday most thought our front office was inept.

If Loomis such a horrible person then where does that leave Bill Kurach or however you spell it? Randy Mueller (Ran out of several NFL teams) etc.

Remember when the Eagles went on a offseason spending spree ?? "The Dream Team". how does that look now?

Not about spending spree (in free agency). I feel Loomis overpays some players that he shouldn't: Harper/Smith and kinda doesn't take care of his over performers: Drew holds out, Graham still waiting.

Loomis' job is not to seek talent in free agency. His job is to crunch numbers.
