In the NFL, you win Super Bowls on the field in February, but the work to piece those championship teams together happens from late February until the summer months.

That is when teams piece together rosters with 15-20 new faces.

That means teams are changing 1/3 of their rosters every season via free agency, the draft, trades and pickups.

The first piece of the New Orleans Saints 2020 offseason got settled when quarterback Drew Brees announced he was returning for another season a few days back.

We will most likely be watching the final season for Brees, but he will probably sign a multi-year deal to offset money for future years to help the 2020 salary cap situation. The Saints will kick that money down the road and hope the salary cap continues to increase as new television deals and an extension of the season is bargained.

Having Brees return means two things. First it gives the Saints the best chance to return to Super Bowl Sunday with one of the elite quarterbacks back on their roster. It is rare in this league to see the same head coach and the same starting quarterback together for 15 seasons, but that is what we will be watching in 2020 with Brees and Sean Payton. That combination has brought the team three NFC Championship appearances and a Super Bowl title.
