The New Orleans Saints showed some real grit and mental toughness during a 35-29 win over the Detroit Lions on Oct. 4.

The Saints played on the road without six really good starters in tight end Jared Cook, offensive guard Andrus Peat, wide receiver Michael Thomas, defensive end Marcus Davenport and the team’s two starting cornerbacks in Marshon Lattimore and Janoris Jenkins the Saints found a way to win.

Saints coach Sean Payton and his staff did an excellent job coming up with a winning game plan with distractions and also dealing with a possible COVID-19 situation on the night before the game in Detroit.

And the Saints lost two starters during the game due to injuries in right offensive tackle Ryan Ramczyk and wide receiver/return man Deonte Harris.

The Lions are not a very good football team, especially on defense, but it is hard to win in the NFL with a healthy team much less a beat-up football team.

But a big key was the Saints rushing attack of Alvin Kamara and Latavius Murray and the Saints offensive line just wearing down the Lions defensive front.
