New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton is well-known for his offensive playcalling skills and he is considered by many to be the best in the game doing so.

But Payton is also known as an aggressive head coach when it comes down to acquiring players he wants.

While some of his maneuvers have not worked out in acquiring players like Brandon Browner, Champ Bailey, Olin Kruetz, Victor Butler, C.J. Spiller and Coby Fleener, it has not stopped him from being very aggressive in acquiring players the type player he wants.

During the 2011 NFL draft, the Saints traded their first-round pick in 2012 and their second-round pick in 2011 to the New England Patriots to acquire the Patriots’ first-round pick. They used the pick to select Alabama running back Mark Ingram.

During the 2016 NFL draft, the Saints dealt a third-round pick and a fourth-round pick in the 2016 NFL draft to the New England Patriots to gain an additional second-round pick and New Orleans selected Ohio State safety Vonn Bell.

During the 2017 NFL draft, Payton wanted Tennessee halfback Alvin Kamara, and when the speedy back lasted much longer than anyone thought he would, Payton had general manager Mickey Loomis maneuver a deal to send a 2018 second-round pick and a seventh-round pick in 2017 to trade for the selection to acquire Kamara.
